This week I have tried Basics Toffees ..... They were not that good really being a little tasteless and gritty almost. I would rather pay more to get smoother toffee texture and taste. Avoid this one.

I agree with other posters that Basics Tinned tomatoes are fine and also that tinned kidney beans are fine too so very cheap ingredients there for a Chilli Con Carne. Basics kitchen rolls are fine for the price. Basics Loo Roll is ok being cheap but nowhere near as nice as Sainsburys Supersoft so you get what you pay for here. Basics Tissues are fine also as long as you do not have a heavy cold as using alot in a short time will make your nose sore!!!

Keep your tips coming in as with increasing food prices (news reports seem to suggest grain prices will continue to rise) we need to save those extra pennies.

    STOP PRESS:

Following on from my earlier post, I have now opened my tin of Basics Tuna. Tastes OK but be warned , compared to "normal" tuna - it is very soggy and not easy to drain unlike the usual stuff.

Basics Sweet and Sour sauce jar - has a lovely flavour and you can definitely taste the ginger. I use it to liven up almost anything and it goes great over a jacket potato. A bargain bucket price, plus it is virtually fat free!
  • Off the top of my head:

In the Basics range we like...

    Tinned tomatoes
    Big bags of onions
    Peppers
    Carrots
    Parsnips
Basics baked beans (OH not so keen though)
    Lemons

Meh...brain's gone blank now, back tomorrow :D

  • i love their basic branflakes, delicious and in expensive but for some reason theyve taken them off the shelf in my store and you can only get fruit and fibre which i dont like. The mozzarella ,feta cheese and Brie are also good.Personally i wouldnt buy the bread as if you place a basic loaf next to a Hovis etc they are so small plus i have a shortage of space in my freezer and only taking out a few slices of bread that i need.

    Lucky cat:)

I go for the oats and muesli. I use them as a base for my HM muesli or porridge.
Digestive biscuits - great on their own or making other puddings
