Ok, I am a total convert, I really am!

    Basics wafer thin ham (fine)

    :DQUOTE]

Until you look at the meat content- its so low its scary to think that the rest of the "ham" is water, sugar and chemicals! I think the normal branded ones are still only 78% pork or something, the expensive types tend to be 100% (or 101%- still get confused by that!)

The extra chemicals on this really put me off eating it- though know it tastes similar. (Even the cat wouldn't touch it- did she know something I didn't?!)
Know thats not the point of this thread, but just wanted to point out to people that on the nutritional information to the pack, you can find out exactly how much meat vs chemicals/water/sugar/starch are in the sliced meats.

i've got a sainsburys shop coming this morning and i've ordered some tinned peaches and tinned sweetcorn to try. wiil report back once we've used them.

thinking about it since reading this thread most of my sainsburys order is comprised of basic item's. i've saved so much. thankyou.
  • The tinned peaches are fine IME, they just tend to come in irregular sizes. In juice as well, which is far healthier than syrup (which Tesco's value & Asda's smartprice peaches come in). Not tried the sweetcorn yet.

    Slighty off topic.
When you order your stuff online with Sainsbury's do you also usually get the same offers/bogoffs etc that you get in store?

  • Bought the Basics cream cheese at the weekend and I think it's better than the Sainsbury's own brand version.
  • Basics hot chocolate is yummy, tastes malty so like a mixture of chocolate and Ovaltine.

  • I'm surprised the other post said the tinned tuna was vile as my other half has three tins a week. The tin size is a little bit smaller than the standard tins but its decent chunks etc. Mind you my other half has it mixed with stuff for lunch etc (tuna mayo etc) so that may explain why hes ok with it. I'm please as it helps bring the food bill down as he eats loads lol!

Another Basics biscuit convert here! The choccy digestives especially - with a nice cup of Basics tea. :D

  • Total covert to the Basics range. Regular buys include
Packs of 3 white soap @15p
    12 packs of loo roll @ 1.26
    Strawb Jelly @ 7p
Double strength apple and blackcurrant juice 1.5L @ 53p (very strong and fruity...highly recommended)
    Shortbread fingers @ 12p

Not a Basics item but this week Sainsburys have great offer on 900g resealable tubs of Crawford Family Circle Biscuits @ £2 each. I am getting a couple for inexpensive Christmas pressies ;)
  • Just wanted to ask a question, how much are you all knocking off your shopping bills, by buying Basics and do any of you buy ALL Basics every week, or do you shop about?

I couldn't tell you what I am saving as I've been buying them for most of this year LOL!!! My weekly spend is for £40 a week (for 2 adults and 2 young kids) - I couldn't hit that target unless I bought Basics.
However there are somethings I won't buy in Basics range - which is pretty much the meat. In the processed stuff ie wafer thin ham etc the meat content is too low and the fresh chicken breasts had just been pumped full of water. But for everything else I am a complete convert :D
Although not with the washing powder - it just wasn't good enough on my whites.
