  • In my local Sainbugs the teabags are still 28p - I bought some on Saturday

Hi yes, we went to Sainsb this morning as my mum and dad wanted to stock up on some more of the Basics jam:D I got another box of t bags and they areback down to 28p.

Do you think I should send an email to Sains, I really want to try the curry sauce, only went on Thursday morning and there was none, went this monring and there was none either, don't know if some had come in over the weekend, but surely they should keep their shelves stocked:confused: Have to say thats my only gripe, plus why do they put all the Basics stuff at the botom and at the back:rolleyes:

Got some Basics, fruit and vege today as really skint now and its a week till pay day:eek: Will let you know how I find it.

i tried a basics large chicken. was dubious but i decided to not think of it as a basics and just compare as i would any other chicken/. and we found it fine.

i slow cooked it and from a £4.50 on i got enought meat for a roast for 2 adults 3 children, Chicken for a chicken fried rice dish for 4 adults , 3 children. and then enough meat for a very meaty chicken and mushroom pie. Plus i gave my cats a small bowl each . i was very impressed with how much meat i got from it.

i've got a sainsburys shop being delivered wednesday and i've ordered another one.

i noticed tea bags also 28p in our store still.

Rather than email (which probably won't actually end up getting you a jar of sauce, but maybe some Nectar points) I'd ask at the Customer Services desk - they may be able to hold one back for you. I whinged at the bakery that they'd sold out of the bread I wanted (umm not Basics, TTD :o, but it's the ONLY TTD thing I ever buy!) 3 days in a row, and they offered to take my name and hold one back until a certain time the following day.

We tried the cider on the weekend and had to throw it as neither of us could drink it.

First time we bought the orange juice too and and that was fine. The shortbread is a real bargain for 12p :T

dont you think the shortbread is a bit too sugary though and not buttery enough? its ok, and for 12p very ok,but not like sains brand up one level.

  • Ok, I am a total convert, I really am!

Oh and I can add some likes now

Basics Pots (lovely, just different sizes)
Basics Chocsticks box of 16 (they are gorgeous, kids loved them) £1.50 Bargain!
Basics Bananas (delicious, thumbs up from everyone)
Basics popcorn (very very gorgoues and morish)
    Basics wafer thin ham (fine)

    :D

Just wanted to ask a question, how much are you all knocking off your shopping bills, by buying Basics and do any of you buy ALL Basics every week, or do you shop about?

Tried the 48p sausages but they took an age to cook (I usually do them in the oven inhalf the time but had to finish these off under the grill) then when I used my George type grill , loads of black gunge came out. Hard to cook IMO.
  • I must admit we have always avoided the sausages, the meat content is not exactly awe-inspiring.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • Basics biccies are fine - just a bit smaller, as far as I can see (can't stand the things, but the kids seem to enjoy them).

Basics cream cheese is impossible to tell from Philly.

Basics salmon trimmings - can't tell you - DD2 disappears with this and the cream cheese and nothing comes back.

    Basics butter - OK

    BAsics tinned tuna - vile

    BAsics fish fingers - lovely

Basics breaded/battered fish fillets - lovely

BAsics white fish - lovely (but getting more expensive)

Basics chicken burgers - identical to expensive ones, but they have increased in price in increments since April 2009 from 60p to £1

A lot of basics range items have gone up by far more than the standard products since the 'trade down' promotions have started. A coincidence, no?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I usually have Cumberland - when they are on special offer - once I tried some more expensive "taste the difference" higher meat content ones but to me they were really disappointing , bland and pretty tasteless. That's why I think it's more the other content that gives the flavour even if the meat content is lower.

    The yogurts are brill though!
