Thanks for the link 1carminestocky:beer:, I did know that the price of tea was going up to be honest - probably my main reason for trying the basic one in the first place as I drink copious amounts of the stuff. As you say, still massively subsidised and, more importantly, still a lot cheaper than the named brands!
And whilst we are saving money drinking this billy bargain tea we can also feel good that the people who harvest the leaves etc are getting a fair day's pay for it. Win win situation IMO. :beer:Call me Carmine....

Ok ok you lot have convinced me, I will be trying Sainsbury's basics, don't have one close to me, so gonna order online, delivery is steep though
Will let you know how I get on, T-bags will be first in the basket, dont need shopping just yet though, so will be a few days.grocery challenge Sept 2012 £21/£3990 -

£3.50 delivery on any order over £40 on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is very reasonable IMO, especially considering the 1 hour slots and the fact you get a £10 voucher (no questions asked) off your next shop if the driver is so much as a minute late. Orders of £100 or over are delivered free of charge.Call me Carmine....

Another recommendation for the rice pudding.
Now you just need to go the next step and put them together. We melt four square of the chocolate and stir into a tin of rice pudding. Delicious:D0 -
Well I went today and bit the bullet, bought quite a few Basics items to try, I just hope they are good, I am sitting here drinking a cup of Basics tea and I have to say its spot on:T Also eating a sandwhich with basics onion chutney on, but I am not so keen on that its a bit too sweet for me:rolleyes:
I want to rip open all the packets and have a wee try of everything, so I know I won't be in trouble for buying all this stuff, eeeeek I really hope the other stuff is as good as you guys say;)
I had my mum and dad with me, dad is a bit of a brand snob, so it took me a bit of persuation to try and get them to buy something to try, in the end they popped Basics marmalade, and Basics jam and basics brown sauce, in their trolly, I really hope they like them as they are trying to reduce their food shopping spend too! I am going to take them round some of these t - bags to try and see what they think.
I am also going to give OH a cup of the basics tea when he gets up (on nightshift) without telling him what it is, lets see if he says anything, I am hoping for a no comment, as that usually means its fine.
Really disappointed they had no curry sauce left though, the store is about 10 miles from me, so not cost effective to nip in to see if they have any, in the week, darn!

I just made a pot of tea as normal when I first bought the teabags and OH said nothing so just assumed it was fine. I only told him after a couple of weeks and he was delighted with the saving. He actually said he hadn't noticed any change.
Just bought a packet of their jaffa cakes and eating them now with a cuppa, another delicious item, will def buy them again. I tend to try 1 or 2 things each time I go in and so far so good.0 -
RE the teabags I only told my OH after I finished the first box of teabags and he never noticed either! He was very shocked after saying errrgh why did you buy these?
Then I told him he had been drinking them for weeks! And then went quiet!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
