  • things like t bags go in my caddy...and biscuits go in the tin.

does the brand snob survey the contents of the cupboards?

  • I'll pop in here with a recommendation for Sainsbury's "Herb Mix"- basically Mixed Herbs with more Thyme in it, but 14p a tub! I couldn't really notice the difference once I'd put it in things...

The Basics biscuits are wonderful: Digestives, Shortcake, Nice, Ginger snaps and custard creams are all delicious!
Also try the Basics canned peaches in juice: Very healthy, no added sugar and per half can 1 of 5 a day...they are a little riper but I prefer them like this! Very cheap for 30 odd pence but very healthy, perfect with basics ice cream.
Sainsbury's basics curry sauce- rediculously cheap at 4p, but so tasty with a delicious curry flavour and makes a perfect mild-moderate heat curry. You can always add your own fresh veg rather than the other sloppy veg found in "branded" ones.
Basics Pasta shapes and spaghetti- even has tips on the back of how to cook easy meals. Very nice, delicious pasta for all occasions.
Basics White choc and strawberry cereal bars and cakes which chocolate chips: Brilliant for lunchboxes, even if you're not on a budget these are delicious and well worth getting.
    Moneysaver and proud :)

I just love Sainsbury's basic range BUT what do other posters do when the "brand snobs" come around their houses?

    Do they hid them away?

I must admit I don't but the other half felt embarrassed when she had a visitor the other day!

I make a point of telling them how little each item cost! :p 3 of our friends have now started shopping at Sainsbugs for their basics range. This is the attitude the retailers have spent billions over the years getting us to adopt - 'buy it, you're worth it' 'Stella - re-assuringly expensive' etc etc. It's total guff, of course, marketing pressure to gte you to pay more than you should. Be proud to not be like the rest of the sheep any more. If a 'snob' tries to put you down for buying basics laugh at their stupidity...

Nope, but some items due to their nature aren't hidden away; bubble bath, cordial things like that.

I'm proud of my Basics. I feel it's a good opportunity to point out how much cheaper my shopping bill is now. There's nothing more competitive than another housekeeper! When I point out that on what I save we'll be having a holiday next year, that would shut up the most ardent of cynics, surely?

Basics chocolate mousse is loved by my children and 25p for 4.
My boys also love the basics chocolate.
Another recommendation for the rice pudding, and the custard too. My BF is taking a tin of pineapple each day in his packed lunch, and says it's lovely.
We tried the Basics Assorted Snacks, and they're lovely, with good strong flavours (plenty of vinegar in the salt n vinegar sticks), and at 47p for 12 bags, great value. They're ideal as a post-school snack for my lads.

I don't think there are many of the Basics range that we don't now have instead of branded.

I bought a basics whole pineapple on sunday, once its cut up and put in the fridge there was absolutely no difference from the other one on sale. I mean its a pineapple!

  • All the basics biscuits are great and mega cheap.

Chocolate digestives and ginger snaps! Yum pass me the cup of tea!

I felt a bit funny about the packaging in white and orange and thinking that everyone would look at my trolley and think "oh she's a scrubber". Now this thought does not bother me at all and I laugh at the saving money on all this stuff and how much money people are wasting on branded goods like I did. Now I do not care and just think how much money the shops are making on absolutely everything they sell
