  • I am very sceptical of the 'value' ranges as everything I have ever tried as been pretty rubbish. However having read how good the Sainsbury Basics Tea Bags were I picked some up yesterday. I was expecting them to be awful at 28p for 80 but I have to admit they are very very good!

Seriously, why not bite the bullet and add a couple of other basics items into your basket every week to evaluate? The basics range is IME certainly good enough to ditch brand names from your shop (in many instances the basics range is HEALTHIER for you on account of its reduced sugar/salt/fat content). Given the crazily cheap prices, what's to lose?

  • Would be daft not to try a few more items from the basics range, as you say they are so cheap I wont really lose anything!
  • I don't buy the tinned tomatoes anymore, considering what they used to cost I won't pay even the basics price - a squirt of tomato puree instead e.g. in chilli is much much cheaper and does the job.
  • Another good one for the list Basic salami

I concur. It's minty. It contains the BDA-recommended amount of fluoride. It goes on your toothbrush. It's 17p. What's not to like? :D

  • I tried the Basics Fish Fingers - absolutely fine - don't eat FF very often at all but they taste fine to me and I can't see much difference between these and the higher cost ones
