I have been browsing this thread for a while and have already tried the orange juice which is great for 56p so stopped while passing a Sainsbury store yesterday because I was absolutely parched having worked hard for several hours and thought the OJ would be just the job.

Couldn't resist buying the much recommended tea bags :D and arrived home with them to the horror of my PG Tips drinking OH

I am finding them perfectly OK and enjoying worrying OH that I might slip a Basics into her cup when she is not looking :rotfl::rotfl:.
  • LOL. Appeal to her caring side - tell her the 28p basics tea bags are fairtrade whilst the vastly more expensive PG Tips aren't. :D On 2nd thoughts, just bung one in her cup and keep schtum. :p

    I've been Money Tipped!
I don't usually go to Sainsburys but popped in today for some odds and sods that are on offer.

Plus, I thought I would try the Basics Shortbread Fingers as they are only 12p. OMG! I wish I hadn't bought them, the packet is crying out to be eaten and I am trying to lose weight after going mad on holiday. They are absolutely delicious, very crumbly and very rich. If you need a TOTM sugar hit ladies I suggest you get a few packs of these in for emergencies ie when the chocolate runs out.

If your Sainsburys is handy to get to, you really should consider having a go at the full basics range, sb44. In our experience it is, on the whole, absolutely fantastic value for money and beats the other supermarket's value ranges hands down on quality. We used to be brand name snobs but had a 'go' at basics after reading this thread. One of our better financial decisions - we just can't believe how little our shopping costs now and shudder when we think of all the money we've 'thrown away' over the years! And in most cases the basics products are actually lower in fat/sugars/salt than their brand name rivals so don't believe the snobs who say you're buying rubbish.

I bought a pack of these the other day and could not believe they were 12p! They taste a lot less sweet and less sickly than usual shortbread and are nice IMHO.

Bring on the basics - I love the peas and do not find them as hard as bullets. I found them a bit strange to begin with after I swopped from Birds Eye petit pois Just cooked them for a little longer in the microwave than usual et voila - love to learn to enjoy a larger sized pea but a much cheaper pea in a bigger bag for its home!

Just my opinion that's all, each to their own :D

  • Well I have to say the curry sauce was fine, surely 4p doesn't even cover the cost of the glass jar though!
  • It's subsidised by a massive %tage, clearly. A loss leader. Like the tea bags.
