my top tip with the value mozzerella. buy the 46p one in the water. drain off the water and freeze it a few hours before u want to use it. then when frozen grate it. it goes much further when grated .
they do sell bags of grated mozzerella for £1.10 but the balls work out cheaper.
it is gorgeous on pizza. you can also mix some mozzerella with the basics grated cheese for pizza topping and this is gorgeous.0 -

Thanks for the tip! No idea how much of the ball I'll use for 2 pizzas, so if I don't use it all, is it ok to leave the remainder in the freezer? Packet doesn't say anything about freezing....0 -
I don't like the basic pasta. It wasn't the colour that put me off. It was that it seemed really chewy. Not very nice at all. I buy there own brand, usually tortellini is cheapest.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Yes it does smell like dog food even John West which is the one I tried, once cooked it was nice, but for the price you might as well buy the ingredients and make it from scratch like you say. :TAnyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I am still trying to convert everyone to the basic t bags. The day after my ds and dil came round. I texted to ask them if the cup of tea was ok. Told them it was Basic. Yes they said it was fine and what a bargain.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I must be super-stingy then - used about 2/3rds for 2 (big!) pizzas! Have stuck the rest back in the freezer and will report back if it's ok when I get back from hol in 2 weeks. Freezing & grating trick worked brilliantly, though!
Another vote here for basics tea-bags - bought a box at the weekend without too much resistance from OH and we both agree they're fine.0 -
i'm sure on the old style forum there i've read alot of members do freeze cheese all the time. so could maybe check there to double check.0

Has anyone mentioned the Basics tortilla chips - 25p for a big bag? We melt some cheese over them and put a big dish of them in the middle of the table when we have chili con carne for tea (basics kidney beans - about 19p!). They (the hot cheesy tortillas) are a big hit in our house:p
Also, the basics chocolate digestives - about 35p and just as nice as McVities
I have read so much about the teabags that I have bought a pack ready for when current stock of non Basic ones runs out. If they are good, that will save me a fortune as we drink tea non stop!0 -
yes the tortilla are delishs.
what hubby and i love doing when we have a sharing meal when kids in bed . we put a layer on a big plate, then layer or rice, then layer of chilli followed by some grated cheese.0
