Made a ploughman's lunch yesterday and the Basics brown pickle was superb with the ham, cheese and the pork pie. For under 30p a bottle, it's fantastic.

OK, I relent, I'm such a softie at heart. I'll give the teabags a try but apologies in advance if I'm rude about them!

I thought the teabags would be a bit worse than usual. At first I thought they tasted a bit different, then I left them to brew at bit longer and adapted my taste buds and now I enjoy them!

They may taste different at first but try and give yourself time to get used to the taste and then see what you think after a week!

I have just tried frozen mixed vegetables at 77p - very nice and great value. They are in very small pieces so might be good for kids.

ah but you see you are entitled to be rude about them if you've tried them ;)

Has anyone tried the ground coffee? I imagine this isn't a big seller for them as anyone who bothers with ground coffee is probably going for premium. Might give it a go next shop and let you know.

Interesting - is the ground coffee cheaper than Sains/tesco normal ob coffee granules which are about £1.30 for 200g? Or is ground coffee the stuff you filter - don't drink coffee myself, uurgh.

I was referring to the filter stuff. In fact, I've just switched to buying beans and grinding them myself but I've had quite a bit of trouble even finding a nice one amongst the big brands. Have just tried Taste the Difference Kenyan Fairtrade beans and it is very nice coffee. But we're getting off the subject of Basics! Can I add Mayo and Red/Green Peppers to the list?
BTW, I have an alternative name for Basics: "Can't Taste the Difference" (chuckle)

Tried their basics Potato Rings (crisps). OK they aren't Hula Hoops but quite frankly that's probably a blessing since we won't be left with grotty flavours that no one else likes in this house ;)
    Not bad - 8 packs for 81p.

I thought the Basics potato rings were very similar to the Ready Salted Hula Hoops apart from the smaller pack size. Fine by me esp as the larger packs of Hula's have yukky flavours in.

Bought my first lot of Basics Oven Chips - a huge bag for £1.16.

They were absolutely fine and cooked very quickly and well done, which is how I like them. They did have a little funny taste but as I don't usually eat oven chips I wasn't sure if this was unusual.

Anyway they made a nice comfort eating tea of chips, basic curry sauce and a couple of sausages
