I read this thread about 4 weeks ago and decided to give it a try.
We always bought branded but not anymore!
For the last for weeks Ive had a huge delivery from them, I cant believe how much more you can get for your money Just by buying from the basics range......... We are eating far much better as Im cooking more from scratch.

I sat down at the computer to do my order yesterday and had my kids jumping around the living room on the Wii shouting out items they wanted. The Jaffa cakes are very popular in my house with the kids and hubby lol.

I did my order last week and left the comp for a min, came back and my youngest son was looking very sheepish and then confessed that he had Just chucked 3 basics maccoroni cheese meals into my trolley as he liked them!!:rotfl:

I'm waiting for a delivery to arrive within the next hour from Mr S's and im sure the delivery driver will be groaning when he sees my name on the list :rotfl:.

I'm probably going to repeat other replies as can't read through it all!

    I like;
    Basics hummous
Cheese and tomato pizzas (which I add mushrooms etc to)
Oven chips (less saturated fat than sains own and not much more than their 'healthy' choice)
    Mayonnaise
Mixed Dried Fruit (nice in the Muesli)

Bought the muesli today and was really nice and only 58p for 1kg!

I would not buy the basics version Weetabix again. Yuk!
Need extra money for masters year!

Yes, we need a single "Basics" page somewhere that holds all our recommendations (and warnings), though I suppose it would have to be on the main site rather than the forum.

Just seen the new Jamie Oliver Sainsbugs ad and correct me if I'm wrong but is this the first time he's mentioned the basics range? Seems to me that Sainsburys have decided to really push the basics range now. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this thread hasn't influenced them in that decision (believe me, they will have people monitoring this thread - it's very cheap market research for them).

PS A new one for me - pickled onions. 31p. Was surprised by their strength! Excellent!
Yes, you're right, it is the first time they've done basics in the ads. But what's the betting that the prices will slowly creep up?? The bread is now 50p a loaf, it was only 35p a few weeks ago. Better stock up on the curry sauce ;)

Could we start watching the prices now and reporting in here if anything goes up?

    Evening all,

Iv been using lots of basics and think most of them are fab.
My boys dont like there squash and have said they would rather drink water. So H2O it is. :j

Iv just had a packet of chocolate buttons and did not think much of them, but they would be good for baking.

OHhh the tonic is fine with the gin xx

12p for a pack of basics shortbread. They are lovely and melt in the mouth.

I found the sainsburys Museli a bit "bran" tasting and didn't like it. I get the asda value one for the same price and i think it more oatey and has a bit more fruit in it.
