It depends on the size of the store. My Sainsbury's doesn't stock some of these basic items, due to the size I would guess as it isn't very big.

Due to trying to cut back even more , I am trying again the basics "Weetabix type" breakfast biscuit cereal as it's less than half the cost of the next product up.
(63p for 24) The ingredients are mostly the same but it's dryer and really really soaks up milk like a sponge, so you need more milk . It's tolerable but tastes a little different. I always have it with a banana with no sugar. Ideally I'd prefer their other brand (£1.49 for 24), but I'll see if I can get used to it.

Their basics instant mash potato is good, and at 20p for 250g it's great value - especially as the Tesco Value and Asda Smartprice are both 120g bags for the same price.

Sainsburys basic toilet paper is good value. 400 sheet rolls of 6 to a packet, for less than £2. There's a smaller version of 4 * 200 sheet rolls for just 59p. I plan to stock up on these this week to take advanage of the 10p off petrol for a £60 spend deal.

Also, for those who like fizzy drinks and remember D & B (dandelion and burdock) Sainsbury's own brand one ( I get cans because I am the only one in the family who likes it, so in a bottle it just loses the fizz and gets wasted) is quite good value at 6 for £1.28. Certainly cheaper than coke.

The basics clear honey is great especially for using to make flapjacks but it has really gone up in price recently was 69 p not so long ago and this week is 99p
same with the basics tissues they have doubled in price to 45p
And I agree the curry sauce at 9p is great value and the kids love it as its quite fruity !

  • I was surprised to see the basics foam bath had risen in price from 18p to 40p - I tried the baby bath at the bargain price of 11p and it's a much better product.
