I bought a jar of the curry sauce a while ago but haven't used it yet. Think I should use Delia's original 'How to cheat at cooking' recipe, as that was the first cookbook I ever bought:) That recipe uses Homepride curry sauce so should be similar.

Today I bought 2 jars of the pasta sauce, on the basis that at 18p it's cheaper than a tin of tomatoes. Can anyone tell me, is it thick enough to use on homemade pizza bases?
At present I have a stock of MrM's cartons of tomatoes with olives for this (and they're brilliant) but they won't last for ever and probably won't be 3 for £1 for quite a while.

never buy the basics tissues!!! They are very hard

I would agree, however when I am at the height of a cold, getting through a box a day, and no matter what I use my nose is going to look like Rudolphs then I would rather pay a few pence for a box of these then £2.50 for a box of branded ones. I wouldn't recommend them for day-to-day use but like I say, at the height of a cold I will always go for these ones.

I use quilted loo roll when I have a streaming cold. Works out cheaper and is nice and soft.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I buy the basics tissues, I have fickle and vaguly delicate skin and unless I have a horrible cold where I need to use many tissues daily the value version is fine. I also think that out of all the brands, Sainsburys are the softer.

Good for the odd nose blow, small spill and similar. Not so good at being overused. For a cold I'd recommend Kleenex from the pound shop.

bought the basics toffees today. YUMMY so moreish, these will become a regular item in our trolley from now one!

out of everything i bought today only 2 bits were not basics.

Was going to get basics bacon, but it didn't state if the meat was British or not, and i can't bring myself to buy danish pork, i'd rather go without than buy that, so had to opt for more expensive but definitely British bacon.

Has anyone tried the Basics Rose Wine? Is it any good?
I used to drink this all the time. It tasted good to me!
I would like to recommend the sweet chutney [similar to Branstons], not as chunky but very good value at 25p.

Oh dear I posted a separate new item on squash so I shall put it in here.

Sainsbury's Basics 1.5 litre squash in Summer Fruits and also Apple and Blackcurrant - 59p! I prefer the Summer Fruits and I cannot taste any difference to the High Juice 1 litre that they charge £1.00 for.

    Chopped tomatoes Basics absolutely fine
    Butter
    Bin bags
    Red Kidney Beans

Tesco's Value Tuna in brine is no problem as I use it pasta bakes and for sandwiches
    Value cooking salt
    Lard
Value washing powder now in a bag and not a box, I use it for my roasting tins to clean them although I did use it on dirty dog towels and it brought them up beautifully.
    Value Kidney Beans
Spaghetti under their 'Verdi' range is brilliant and much cheaper
Value porridge - love it so creamy and better than their Finest which was coarse!
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

Funnily enough I almost bought this yesterday & then saw that their ordinary own brand is cheaper, 35.2p per 100ml as opposed to 37.5 for the basics.

How can the original brand be cheaper?? Are Sainsburys realising that people are more interested in the Basics stuff? :D

Anyway, absolutely delicious. I went for Basics part baked baguettes filled with basics fish fingers, a generous amount of basics tartare sauce and a little basics ketchup. YUM! As it's friday, I suggest to everyone to give this a try!

The tartare sauce was just as expected, not too strong tasting with lots of capers. 100% recommended :)
    Moneysaver and proud :)

After another poster(s) recommended the basics corned beef, tried it yesterday. There was a little bit of fat on the outside which I cut off but prob less than the premium brands (not the lean versions). It was perfectly fine. Highly recommended. And I am fussy about corned beef which is why I hadn't tried it earlier.
