Forgot to add
Mayonnaise - just as good as the branded stuff, although less ethical (although to be fair Hellmans only started using free range eggs in the last few years). Similar problems regarding lack of squeezy bottle but then many brands come in glass jars too.0 -
Here more products I tried:
Instant Hot Chocolate- a lot cheaper than the other brads. Apparently it's less cocoa in it so when I use it I just put an extra teaspoon of baking cocoa I have lying around in and it's fine.
Instant Chocolate Dessert- I thought this was a bit softer than Angel Delight. The taste was ok, at 9p a handy dessert as it's really quick to make.March GC £122.25/ £120
April GC £109.83/ £650 -

So its cold and fancying some soup...
Basics Chicken Soup - 17p
Actually really nice, just add a bit of salt, pepper and some herbs
Basics Tomato Soup - 17p
Again, really nice and also part of your 5 Fruit and Veg0 -
Basics Tinned Custard.
I had an operation on my jaw yesterday (thanks to all at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham for your wonderful care, expertise and professionalism) so solid food is off the menu for the next couple of weeks. To try and satisfy my now ravenous hunger I've tried the basics tinned custard and it is fantastic. It's really good comfort food and tastes much better than other cheap custard I've tried - just what the doctor ordered!0 -
Just tried Sainsbury's Basic Veg Spring Rolls. A basic filling and a little greasy but a great snack / treat!
I only bought them as I spotted them in the fridge section and couldn't resist the bargain / trying them out!2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback

Anybody used the frozen cooking bacon?
I have never noticed the Basics frozen cooking bacon, I have just seen packs in the chiller cabinets. However, I get my cooking bacon from Farmfoods - £1.50 for a large pack (says 908 gm on the pack but quite often weighs more!) Much better value than Sainsbury's Basic. You'll find it in the chiller cabinets, making it easier to split into smaller portions to freeze yourself."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
I tried the Basics Irish Stew the other day. The veg and liquid were very tasty but the lamb - well mutton really I suppose - was mostly fat and gristle in fact some of the 'meat' pieces were just a lump of fat.
Minus the meat it would have been a tasty chunky stew, but with it a definite thumbs down.
Will not buy again. As many others have said, be very weary of the meat products in this range.~*~ If you don't need it, it isn't a bargain ~*~0 -
Tried basics cornish pasties 3 for 99p. Very nice!0
