Basics Marmalade is excellent.
Not a fan of Basics Pickle spread though. Bransons every time...sorry!
bought the basics marmalade for hubby, instead of the golden shred one he likes, didnt show him the jar, asked him after he ate it how it was and he said it was delicious, just as good as his usual brand, so converted! am going to try the basics teabags this week as hear they are really good too0 -
weavedribbon wrote: »Basics apples are great and recently it's been UK ones as well which is brilliant. I do tend to check the size of the prebagged ones though cos i prefer small apples. In my nearest you can buy either prepacked Basics apples (usually smallish) or loose basics apples (normally huge).
I tried the basics pasta sauce for the first time today (35p for a jar that would serve 2 people) but I wasn't impressed. It lacked flavour and the "richness" of other pasta sauces, even after I'd added loads of veg to it.I normally just make my own sauce from tinned tomatoes, tomato puree etc and think I'll stick to doing that!
bought the basics pasta sauce jar for my little boy, as if I do pasta just for the children my daughter prefers butter and parmesan whereas my son likes tomato based sauce, he said it tasted very nice, although it did look runny to me. I stocked up on Jamie Oliver's tomato and chilli pasta sauce at Christmas when it was 89p (I think!) so tend to use that when Im cooking a big load for hubby and I as well as the children, and pad it out a bit with a touch of the basics, seems like a good buy0 -
My son and girlfriend came for lunch yesterday and I made us a sort of seafood salad using Basics salmon trimmings, Basics prawns and Princes tinned tuna (bought when half price in Sainsbury's), alongside new potatoes (Basics of course), a bit of pasta (when half price in M & S) and salad. He asked if I had come up on the lottery!! In actual fact it cost very little but looked quite expensive!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I did think this would not contain much rice...how wrong I was. Packed with rice and very very tasty!
Tried the rice pudding today and agree it was lush.
Recently tried the basics samosa's and found them a little dry. Also had the basics mash. Which was fine as its just potato, milk and seasoning. I know I could make it myself but for when I need a shortcut its great!
My next basics test is the frozen apple crumble. Will let you know how that goes.2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback

I think the Tesco's Basics instant custard is great. It's the only one that consistently doesn't go lumpy when you add the boiling water. Believe me, I've tried them all as hubby is a custard-with-everything sort of guy!

Basic sainsbury's drinking chocolate is cac!0

Basics mozzarella both the large and baby sizes are really nice. Salmon and Trout are both good as is the smoked salmon. Aldi's chicken is much nicer as is Lidl's. We get the basics carrots, potatoes and onions which are generally fine, though for some reason everyone's carrots were awful last month!
The bagged salad and peppers are also good. Fabric conditioner is good as is the butter. Sainsburys have the biggest "basic" range but our local shop seems to have cut back on the variety lately...trying to raise profits? Oh and forget the breakfast cereals...that is like eating cardboard. I would also agree about the hot chocolate. Yuck!
