Basics butter - 98p a pack, and it's British butter rather than EU or NZ. Cheaper than Tesco's lowest priced British option.

Tried the Basics mince & kidney beans today in a chilli. Both were lovely. Can't believe I've been spending nearly £3 on mince, when the 97p stuff is just as tasty.

    Other good items:

    Potatoes
    Carrots
    Tea bags
    Kitchen towel
    Cat litter
    Cling film
    Black sacks
    Toilet roll
    Tissues
    Sanitary towels

Try Basics red wine. Tastes like other red wines I've had. Not as high as some wines in alcohol content (11%) but it's £2.72 a bottle!

what about adding a splash into a pan of spag bol for added flavour? Mmmm!!

Have just bought the basics garlic bread to have tonight - 40p - can't really go wrong - this is to go with my basics olives and basic hummous (which I always buy and which are fab) for a cheap starter ... :p

The garlic bread is another one with nonsensical pricing, 40p for one or 84p for the twin pack yet people still buy the twin one.

Have bought the frozen Basics mixed veg this morning - to go in a shepherd's pie tonight - cost around 35p or 36p. Hopefully should be fine when mixed with all the lovely mince, potato and gravy ... Will let you know ... ;)

basics shower gel has gone up today in my local sainsburys, was only 10p now 30p. think a trip to tescos coming soon to stock up

As you'll know, the Tesco Value shower gel is now 30p as well, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Sainsbury's Basics shower gel was 10p in Exeter Alphington today.

I got 5 bottles, only to find they went through at 30p each. Obviously as it was Sainsbury's there was no R&R or indeed DTD, but after I complained they did cancel off 4 bottles, so I only paid 30p for the 5 bottles.

Ok, so having read through this thread, I thought it was definately worth trying the basics range, as im trying to find ways of saving more money.
Today I grabbed the Basic range of what I usually buy, so now have the following to try:

Ketchup - Nice! put in in a heinz squeezy bottle for ease, kids didnt even notice a difference. result! lol
Mayo - Nice. Had egg mayo for lunch.
Curry sauce - Wow, cant believe what a lovely sauce this is for just 9p! Removed the raisins tho, personal preference! Yum.
    Pasta sauce
Mixed fruit jam - Tasty, had this one before actually.
    Honey - Yummy.
Yogurts - Lovely, and only 29p. Peach is one of my fav yogurts anyway, and this basic range is fab. Not a great deal of fruit pieces included, but will buy again.
Apples - Nice sweet juicy apples.
Full flavour cheese - Tastes fine to me.
    Baked beans
    Tinned Spaghetti
    - tastes great.
Shepherds pie - hmm, not so sure on this. Maybe ok for a last minute cheap meal.
Chicken wings - Dog enjoyed lol!
Chicken breast - absolutely fine for dinner tonight.
Mince - Ok. Drain off excess fat. Lots of flavour. Tho I do prefer a leaner mince.
Garlic bread - Nice, crispy garlic bread. Enjoyed by all.
Milk chocolate buttons. - Nice chocolate.
White chocolate bar - Nice chocolate, kids enjoyed.
Cashew nuts and peanuts - Nice nuts! Not overly salted or under-salted.
Apple & Blackcurrant squash - Nice squash, im happy!
Orange squash - Nice squash. no complaints!
Kitchen roll - no probs so far.
    Multi purpose cleaner

I was slightly worried about the salt and sugar amounts in the basic brand, as i tend to buy the lower sat/sugar versions. I was surprisingly impressed tho having checked a few with the usual brands.
Looking forward to trying the rest. If I like them all, this will be great.
    Go basic! :)
  • Has the basics chicken curry ready meal yesterday. Not much meat but when it was all mixed together it was nice and did for a quick getting in late from work tea.

  • I had the basics salmon cottage pie for tea tonight, from the fresh aisle.
Albeit a bit small, its delicious for 80pence-ish.
Will be stocking up on those.

I'm going to be trying a lot more of the basics range.
