Just tired the potato salad and it was lovely! will definately buy that again, I had hoped to get coleslaw but they didn't have any.

56p for a massive tub of potato salad is amazing!

I don't like the Basics coleslaw, it's much too "tart". In fact half a tub of that is the only thing I've actually thrown away this year!

Haven't tried the potato salad yet, hmm might chance it.

Any verdict on the fish fingers mentioned on the last page? I tend to shy away from value fish fingers- scarred from primary school brown ones I guess!

Not tried them yet, but they're on the menu this week so shall report back!!

Have had the breaded fish fillets before and they were okay but a bit rubbery, the ingredients on the fingers seem better so hoping to have more success!

Remember..i posted this near the beginning of thread..if there is any basics product that you buy and dont like...sainsbury have a policy of refunding you the price...you cant lose on trying something.

I asked a cashier at my local and they hadnt heard of this, neither had her supervisor i believe,it wasnt until they fetched the manager that he confirmed it was correct.

Oh really? I've never heard of that one either. I suppose it relies on someone in the store being aware of it then.

These are fine. I did a blind taste test with a branded make with hubby and son, and both preferred the value ones.

I bought a frozen Basics chocolate fudge cake yesterday (only 90p) and put it in our freezer at home. I've just taken it out intending to have it for pud tonight, and when looking for the defrost instructions I find it has instrucs for cooking it from frozen! I didn't realise it needed cooking at all.

Has anyone had one of these, and if so is it necessary to cook it or can it just be defrosted and eaten like that?

(Edit @ 8.48 p.m. - We have just eaten it defrosted but not cooked and it seemed okay. Very flat and the sponge was a bit stodgy, but what did we expect for 90p? Very chocolatey though, not bad at all).

There were 6 (!) large boxes of Basics washing powder in my branch this week, so maybe it hasn't gone for good!

Tomato Chutney is lovely - 72p for 305g. Just as nice as Baxter's Tomato Chutney with Red Pepper £1.10 for 312g. Tried the Onion Chutney but found it horribly sweet.

i mix the mint sauce with a bit of sugar and vinegar (don't ask me why my mum always did it when we were kids) and its fine like that, don't like it on its own. though it is nice mixed with gravy for a mint gravy for lamb.

The vinegar in the mint sauce is a regional thing. I had a boyfriend in the South and they never did it. In fact he looked at me horrified the first time he came to Sunday lunch. Meanwhile my 1st Sunday lunch at his house I was longing to ask for the vinegar. I was only young then, so I didn't have the courage to ask. :D Now I ask people what they would prefer when they come to our home. .......
