Thanks R
Forgot to say the weather was very strange - very hot and sunny before we got there - we arrive and lo, cloudy with amazing winds! Like the mistral had struck. Brought a tree top down in the garden. One hot and sunny day then rain on our last day
I'm thinking Croatia next year....... flights, NO driving, The Med as it used to be (apparently)...0 -
Ticklemouse - it sounds like you need a holiday to get over that one, I suppose that it could have been worse if the boys had got it too but that's the best you can say about it really ....what a disaster!0

Hello,
You lot make me feel so lazy! Had a massive lie in (well it is a bank holiday!) and have just had tea and toast for brekky although its nearly lunch time!
I didnt go to bed until early this morning though as I was on the computer sorting out our monthly budget and balancing everything. I didnt start until late as I had 16 parcels to do ready to post tomorrow from ebay sales. I have run out of packaging materials so OH is going to go and get me some more later. So it was a productive evening anyway.
The plan for today is that Im going to change beds and do as much housework as I can. OH and DDs are going kite flying this afternoon and I would like to join them so I need to get into gear and make a start. Tea is going to be OH's favourite, Shepherds pie. After tea, Im going to tackle the ironing.
Tomorrow Im going to post all my parcels first thing, then Im going to have a day out in a nearby town with DD's and my mom, and get DD's school shoes too, with my ebay proceeds.
Enjoy the bank holiday everyone. :wave:0 -
I picked the pears on my neighbours tree where it hangs over our fence yesterday and she said I could keep some(she is 96 so cant pick them herself) ,so I'll be having a first go at bottling later on when its a bit cooler.
She also gave me some more of her windfalls so we had a georgeous apple crumble yesterday made by OH and he's doing another later (after the chicken stew).
OH is fitting a new front door as our old one has rotten,we got the door from a neighbour who was throwing it away as they had double glazing put in,so it was free :j.
Just been down the bottom of the garden, into the wilderness beyond the veg patch and found a huge pile of Rosemary that someone has thrown over the fence. I was quite peeved till I realised it was Rosemary but now will be trying a few bits as cuttings to see if they will root. I'll probably strip the leaves from the rest to use in baths and burn the wood on the bonfire,so really they did us a favour.
Im trying to finish DS's library book before he needs to take it back on wednesday.I've got 250 pages left to read so will be speed reading tonight and tomorrow.0 -
Good afternoon all......beautiful day here today.....got up early and went to a bootfair...found a stall selling books for 10p each.....needless to say I got loads....got a couple of nice books on preserving and cakes but the rest were fiction. Managed to get some fruit too, 3 melons, 3 pineapples, 20 peaches, 35 large toms and 2 huge bags of grapes for £5. Guess i'll be making fruit salad later!!
Have just cut the grass and the lawn mowers sounding very sick - hope it's fixable.....have just filled the kids pool up too so they're happy bunnies. DH is asleep in bed - he's saying it's sunstroke, I'm say it's "I want to get out of cutting the lawn"
Homemade beef and onion pies for tea with mash and cauli and fruit salad for pudding. Will try and get blackberry picking tomorrow afternoon - that was the plan for today but DH has never been berry picking so want him to experience it with us.
Hope you're all enjoying the weather."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Hello everyone
It's a lovely, lazy, sunny bank holiday here in N.Ireland. I'm really doing nothing much today - read a lot this morning, put some washing out, fed kitties, fed myself... I need a few odds and sods from the shop - can't face the supermarket so will go to the local CostCutter and get some special offers. I'm following the GI diet at the moment after my mortifying fitting session for my new work uniform - I really, really need to shift some lard... The GI Diet is actually quite old style - it focuses on fresh fruit & veg, encourages realistic (ie small!) portions of good quality meat rather than frequent consumption of processed meat, and that pulses such as chickpeas and kidney beans are the healthy eaters best friend. I actually have most of what I need in already, just don't need to replenish my stocks of chocolate, bread, wine, cheese, and so on...
I'm going to go for a brisk walk a little later too. I discovered another forest park nearby which has one a mile long, so I could whizz round that two or three times. I really must do a bit of tidying and cleaning. I feel so guilty when I read everyone else's plans for the day - my house is always such a tip! Perhaps I should do what Penny-Pincher does and have a mega-blitz for 20 minutes, either in the evening or in the morning.
I love bank holidays but it is scary to think that our next public/bank holiday is at Christmas, it seems so far away but I know the time will fly by.
Will have to fly myself, bye bye everyone have a fabulous day what's left of it.

Had a busy old day so far; OH went to work at 7am so I got up & have so far done 3 loads of washing (first one went into tumbler cos it was raining, but now the others are on the line), cleaned the cooker & rest of kitchen, polished the kitchen table (note to self: don't ever buy a glass kitchen table again), mopped kitchen floor, cleaned out the rabbit hutch, done a load of ironing, sorted out most of our holiday packing, been to Morrisons for the weekly shop & stewed some rhubarb from FiL's allotment. I've also got a load of corn on the cob & raspberries from him too. Yum!
I had leftover curry for lunch & we're having mushroom risotto for tea, so I'd better go soak the porcini & put a bottle of wine in the fridge. It is a bank holiday afterall!0 -
Hello! Did you all miss me??? Well, I have some news - I found a flat - and its absolutely LOVELY!!!! Its so pretty and really nice, and the landlord is not a jerk either! So thats good! Also, I officially start in the new job on the 5th Sept, and move in the flat on the 9th, so I have to spend a few nights on a freinds couch, but I dont care! Things are finally falling into place!!!!
Ive just been shopping as ive had my pigsback vouchers thorough, meaning that I can treat myself to a few housey items - So I think ill get some nice scented candles or something equally useless.
Ive also been storecupboard challenging and have almost run out of food, but there is enough to last until we move out, except milk of course, and have been stealing aldi banana boxes by the dozen for my packing frenzy. The cat is very confused as to whats going on of course, and has taken refuge on top of the drawers by the bathroom as her new bed, but she seems happy enough!
Anyway, I suppose all is good, I cant wait until I have proper internet access so I can be on here more, and am so excited about the new place - I actually dream about it. I keep mentally planning where everything will go, and who will do it. Boyf tasks are of course to set up tv computers and internet etc, while I do kitchen and bedroom! Lounge will be done last.
Anyway, Im sure you are all now bored of hearing about my new place, so ill !!!!!! off again and go do some more packing, and I hope you are all well and happy - im also sorry I havent had time to read through any of the threads to see how you are all doing.
Anyway - Bye bye for a while from me - crazy packing freak!
Jo xx
EDIT: Is Queenie back yet? Anyone heard anything yet?#KiamaHouse0 -
Spent most of the day ironing - but there is so much of it that it hardly seems touched.
Making lemon and garlic chicken with roast potatoes - 4 kinds of veg and apple strudel(from Lidl) with custard to follow.
DH is about to teach abroad for 10 days so trying to get his packing sorted out as well!
At present he is denying bitterly that he ever had any smart short sleeved shirts! (I know he has at least 6)
DD has friend coming to stay overnight and Grandad popped in so we will be 8 for dinner!
Once dishes are done for that lot I intend to hide upstairs."This site is addictive!"
