DD is away on her holidays :j so I decided to take a walk upto the library via the charity shops and get OH to pick me up on his way home ;) It was worth it - I managed to get my library books renewed (Not on the Label, The War Time Kitchen {AKA Post-war Kitchen, The Victory Cookbook and We'll Eat Again box set}) and I also managed to find 3 more interesting books in my hour long wander around
    1. The Ultimate Quilting and Patchwork Companion which flicking though looks great and has already given me LOTS of ideas for homemade gifts for Christmas,
    2. Just like mother used to make as recommended here. Flicking through that had my mouth watering so I'll be looking for a copy on ebay and in charity shops as I can't afford the £20 new price-tag!!
    3. "I'm Okay...You're a Brat" which looks like a very interesting read. To quote the back of the book "A Welcome expose for parents of all ages, would-be parents, and those who want to remain child-free. In this fearlessly honest book, Susan Jeffers breaks the 'conspiracy of silence' and pulls no punches about how difficult parenthood is for many" ;)
Off for a bath now and then going to watch TV for the rest of the night :D

Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

This morning I made little pots for seedlings out of newspaper. It took a while to get the exact size I wanted to fit my windowsill propogator but in the end I managed to make them 2" high and 1" at the base using a childs origami book for guidance.
I painted the bits of the shed that I missed the other day and that seem to have multiplied every time I went past it.Luckily I did it at 8am and it didnt start raining hard till about 10am so it was dry enough not to wash away.
I bought one of those water jet things for massaging/cleaning our gums while I was out.Its charging so we havent been able to try it yet.OH and DS hate flossing and I dont much like it as my teeth are overlapping and it gets stuck,so hopefully this will solve the problem and may be money saving in the end if it cuts down on fillings for OH and me.Kids dentistry is free still so, wouldnt save money there.
Next door had a very cheery builder digging their shed foundations. He sounded like a londoner and kept up a running banter all morning. It made me smile because it was just the sort of chatter the lads at work used when I was younger.Made me feel quite homesick.
Oh well ,off for a nice big cuppa!

    Aw....Bless!

Bet you had a lovely time :D picnics in the car can be fun, it's not where you are, but who you are with that matters.

Finally got up and had a good clear up, dusted and vacced the house, mopped kitchen floor and changed our bed and towels, so not such an unproductive day after all. Chicken curry was yummy with chocolate fudge cake (made by me) warmed up with ice cream for afters. Also got my M+S vouchers today, and I have a Sainsburys bank visa too so I get extra nectar vouchers and I pay them both off each month, and save the nectar vouchers and M+S vouchers for the kids clothes.
I listed 22 items on ebay on Saturday night and have loads of watchers and a few bids so Im really excited. Im off to do a bit of sewing, enjoy the evening everyone.

    Evening all

Well today was the first day back at work after a fantastic entire two weeks off. I was really dreading going back - as envisaged the work was piled up all around my desk, so lots of overtime coming up to get it cleared.

We are being lumbered with a uniform at work and of course I got the shock and humiliation of my life when I was being fitted. At least they had a suitable size so I got something. I'm going to try the GI diet now and try and lose a few (a multitude more like) pounds as I really don't want to end up going to ask for a bigger sized uniform in a few months!! GI sounds like a sensible method, not too eccentric.

Ember...congrats on getting a new kitty. I know how devestated you were to lose your gorgeous boy so suddenly, it's a really horrible thing to go through. A new kitten is always a joy, and I am sure he'll be a complete pleasure in your life. What is your new baby's name, and do you have a picture you could show us?

Tea tonight was the last of my sausage casserole. I'm going to have to consult my GI book in order to complile a shopping list - brown pasta/rice, good lean ham, nuts etc etc. The food is v.good & healthy. Unfortunately crisps, chocolate bars and bottles of plonk are not staples in this way of eating, but that is why I'm in this mess... I'm going to have to chuck out my economy pasta and rice and such like and replace with the more expensive brown varieties, however portion sizes will be a bit more meagre, so things will last longer so not too painful on the pocket in the longer term. If I can give up the cigs, surely I can do this too....? Wish me luck.

  • Morning everyone...

Hope Penny-Pincher is OK today - she normally starts this thread before I have even opened my eyes!

Am 'working at home' this morning in an attempt to type a report as well as get the washing out and get tonight's dinner ready. I have decided for my sanity to give up on trying to keep the house tidy this week - I am in the middle of decorating the main bedroom and am currently in the destruction phase (ie. it's got to look worse before it gets better - I hope!).

    Other plans for the day:

Chilli con carne into the slow cooker
Unblock bath plug (am going to try bicarbonate of soda unless anyone has any other suggestions?)
Two birthday cards to make and one present to wrap
    Ironing!!!

    Have a lovely day everybody.

    Good morning all

Had planned a lie in this morning but of course I woke up with a jump at 7am! DH is still languishing in bed so I'm going to try and get lots done before he wakes up and gets in the way.

Need to sort the washing...it's on airers all over the house..chinese laundry style and needs collecting, folding, putting away/ironing. Need to have a good dust and hoover all through, clean the parrot, empty the dishwasher and reload it with last nights offerings, must remember to water the plants too....bathroom needs a quick going over..get some bread going, get something out the freezer for tea...it just goes on and on....

Will pop DD's in the bath while I attack it all - they can't get in the way either then! Need to pop to the farmers market for eggs and hopefully get the front and back lawns cut and the front hedges trimmed......and all that before lunch because I want to go out for a while this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day..

  • Morning All :hello:

Had a rough night last night and hands are playing up this morning (wet/damp weather makes them seize up..lol). Never mind, life goes on!

DD & OH had a great time at the zoo yesterday and managed not to spend more than the £20 we allocated for the day, which included KFC, ice cream, candy floss, bird food, drinks and a leopard candle holder with candle for DD (reduced to £1.99 ;) ). Actually came back with £2.80 change

To do today: 1 white boil wash in machine as i type(may have to TD again as very wet  ) and probably another 1/2 loads today, sweetpthrough and mop, toilet cleaned, DW on at the mo, dusting in lounge.

Also there is a 5p listing day on Ebay this Thursday, so will sort through DD wardrobe again and see what other treasures I can find. OH built an outer house 2 years ago which we use for an office (well his computer and stuff is all going out there next week for when he starts his degree next month as ive had enough of it in our bedroom)there is so much stuff thats been dumped out there. I have asked him if he can have a sort through, so hopefully will have a ton of stuff to stick on ebay. Probably set it all up on turbo lister then upload it all on thursday and do 10 day auctions so that possible buyers will see it over two weekends (inc bank holiday weekend!)

DD will be helping me sort through her clothes and bedroom, then she has the weeding to do in the back garden for which she has already been paid for

Lunch will be lamb chop, mash & veg. Dinner will HM chicken & sweetcorn pie (left over from sunday roast) new pots and veg. Shopping is due this morning between 10-12 and used a £10 voucher of a £50 shop at Asda. Should only need to top up next week-£10 in lidls should do it :D

    Have a great day.

    Penny-Pincher!!

    :hello: Morning :hello:

Gosh, you put me to shame! Looks like I'd better get a wriggle on.

OH has gone to work, leaving me to wonder what I should be doing today! Ironing (does it ever end?), cleaning the house and popping into town to get some packaging items for my new ebay venture - well, I'm selling 4 books on there!

This afternoon I'm looking at this house that we've already said we'll rent, so fingers crossed it's okay. It's a new build, so it can't be too awful can it?

I'm most excited about my books on ebay as I've got bids - and higher than I thought I'd get, which is most exciting. There's still a few days to run too....

We got one of those charity bags through the door yesterday, which is lucky as the stuff that we didn't sell on Sunday at the car boot sale was going to go to a charity shop. It's all good quality stuff, but we can send books, videos etc as well as clothes. May as well have a good sort out before we move and hopefully some people will benefit from it all.

Take care and have a good day folks.
