I got some good news today too - the house is definetly on "hold" for me and they have said "see you on the 15th to pick the keys up" so :j
Ive been shopping today - ok i didnt get my sofa or my cooker etc i went looking for but i got loads of bargains! I was cheeky and asked my friend with a car to come with me.. and bring his Asda staff discount card!
Bought loads of Asda Smartprice kitchen utensily things.. thought one the best bargains was 18 smartprice glasses - for £2.47! :j And then 10% off it all cos of my mates discount :j
Went to Matalan and got some things i couldnt carry yesterday - all in the half price sale..Got a lovely cranberry coloured glass bowl yday for £4 im gonna use as a fruit bowl on my dining table.. going for a retro look as im gonna have a "vintage" late 60's dining table and chairs. So today i got a lamp which is a big round red ball which "glows" looks really funky and for £5 i think its decent as would probably be at least 5 times that for a authentic retro one.
But the bargain of the day has to be my pan set - 3 big sturdy pans for a humugous... £3.50!
Just need to find my cooker, sofa, bed and fridge freezer now though.
(Although the lad who shares my locker in work is moving house himself and is selling a fridge freezer for £60 so think i'll be getting that as its £15 cheaper than the cheapest ones i could find in all the local second hand shops)
Think ive saved looooads today
Yey for you too! Sound like you have been bargain hunting in ernest today! I got thinking about the double bed thing - often, the Ikea cataloge tells you the dates when a particular item is going to be on special offer - ive seen double beds really cheap there - and the cheapest mattress isnt so bad - but does wear out quickly (about a year....) but would last until a more expensive one could be bought. Although, I reckon if you go to a local bed merchant type place (there are loads of indepandants around) you should be able to barter, e.g free mattress, or free duvets and pillow sets etc.
Anyway - thank you all for your congratulations, I really appreciate it, and with me only working 35hours a week - long live O/S!!!
Jo xx
Edit - Johanne - have you done the great vouchers by mail hunt yet? Its in the online and offline vouchers board, you can get a load of vouchers against shopping for free if you use the right tactics (compliments, not complaints!) and freebies board is great for getting stuff for nowt - like bits of food, coffee, jelly beans, baking tray, clocks etc etc - you get the drift! As they say in Tesco - Every little helps! Would probably allow you to save £20 on food to buy something more fun, like, err... a breadmaker!!

Raining heavily here in London. Have an engineer coming today as our washing machine is playing up yet again-he only came last saturday and still has the same error and water is not leaving the drum and its suppose to be a 1600 spin  So glad I took the extra cover till 2007 or this would be costing a fortune!

Morning all,
hunted the city and found a beautiful desk in a charity shop which OH can use to build model cars- that's him occupied while I am on here!!! Then had a massive falling out over spending $10 (!) at Subways for a lunch. I mentioned hm and got evil looks. What's wrong with some people?????
Got some fresh black mussels for pennies so having french style mussels in cream and whitewine sauce with garlic, crusty bread and green salad. Am so excited but waist groaning already! Have a good one everybody!Three years, six months, three weeks, 13 hours, 48 minutes and 30 seconds. 26011 cigarettes not smoked, saving $11,704.80. Good morning everyone (or good evening if you're in Adelaide!).
Well I've rather recklessly invited all 'the girls' round for a girly night tonight - all ten of them. Thank goodness for the slow cooker - chilli con carne is now in and bubbling away so it's jacket potatoes all round methinks.
Just off to Northampton; for once not a hideous crawl up the M6 hurrah, and then it's the weekend, not a moment too soon.
Have a good Friday.

Morning all!
I thought having the computer on by 8 am was early - heaven knows what DH would think if he were not on the bus on the way to work.
We're off to the post office today, to post our first Amazon sale book (thanks you guys :T ) I hadn't thought about it until this morning, but I figure that must count as pin money, so will sort that out in a mo. I'm also going to do our first August grocery shop. I think it's going to cost about £33 - I always guess on a pound an item, but I may well get some beers for DH if they're on special, as I think after the last few days he deserves it!
We had a LONG chat last night after watching bank of mum and dad (always make me feel there's an end in sight) and having received a letter yesterday morning about a bond we took out a couple of years back. He thought that we should leave the money there, but has now agreed that we should take it out and use the cash to pay off the biggest chunk of debt, and start saving. It's not meant to come out until 2009, but he's realised that the interest we'll pay means that money is not going to do much at all. So I'm waiting on a call/email/letter from them to confirm we can go ahead. I feel bad as it's the last of our wedding money (the rest was used for a deposit on the house) but the idea of being all clear by February just sounds like an opportunity to sleep better at night and not worry. Then we can start saving.
I'm tired this morning as I couldn't get to sleep last night, so am all out of kilter. We're all still in pyjamas (and baby sleeping bag) and I have so much to do this morning! must get moving ...Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0 -

Morning all.
Had a bit of a bad week this week as some of you may have noticed i havent been about as much as usual.
Did a big blitz on the kitchen and living room lastnight and prepared a slow cooker casserole. Wrote on my hand in marker cooker so i wouldnt forget this morning to turn it on, woke up this mornin and the ink had gone from my hand and was firmly printed on to my cheek from the way i slept. DUH. I did remember to put it on tho.
Havent tidied as much as i shuold have but ive been busy making extensions to sellon ebay (when i eventually find my digi cam, whoever said "safe places" were a good idea)
Got head hunted this morning so im super happy. for IBM too, good job and good money, but alot further away from my house and if we move it may be even harder to get too, will see if wages allow me to get a little brum brum.
Turkey and red wine casserole for tea loaded with pulses and mushrooms! YUMMERS. served with mash and cauliflower and carrots. Bought a meal deal today for lunch as a friday treat as i have been down in the dumps.
Will pop into retail park on the way up to the airport this afternoon when i go to meet OH off his flight from Bristol. Hopefully get some cheap tatties in Tesco than in the local department stores fruit section (altho they are sooooo nice quality)
Will post back later after my first coffee and cigarette of the day ( i know i know i had stopped smoking but its been a baaad week, and ive had 3 since monday, this is the 4th)0 -
Well done Jo and Johanne.0

Good morning all - only just managed to get out of my pit! DH has a day off so a lie in was the order of the day.
Had DD2's appointment at G.O.S.H yesterday - she will need an op but they won't do it until next summer...she'll need to stay in for 7 days and will have a nice shiny metal bar inserted under her ribs to try and straighten them out....needs to stay in for 3 years!!! She was really good about it tho - can't wait to see if she'll be able to stick magnets on her chest! lol.
Took HM lunch with us and borrowed a friends rail card so the costs went down from the £60 I'd planned to £42, including cabs....not bad! Popped into the British Museum afterwards - free entry - and had a wander before jumping on a fast train home.
Got to hurry up and get a wriggle on this morning, working at 1pm so need to get the house sorted - looks like a bomb site (must be cos DH is home!!) Just sent him off to get his hair cut so I can clear the decks for an hour, is it just me that finds they get in the way?????
Got a turkey thigh out last night to make into a curry today - will relegate that job to DH tho - I think I deserve a day off from cooking, (although I need to make some bread and DD's want cheese straws and fridge bisuits)
Still plowing through stuff for ebay and boot fairs too - Have asked DH to sort all his Sci-fi books out later so we can maybe get some listed onto Amazon.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Good Morning!
I am off in a couple of hours for a week in Wales visiting my sister. There are lots of pound shops there and some lovely bargain fabric shops as well so I'm taking my pin money with me :j
Well done to Jo for getting that job!
Penny pincher I am so sorry that you are struggling with the pain, I hope it eases soon. I am amazed how much you do manage to do each day. (((((HUGS)))))

Hope everyone has a great ol style day. Will try to log on from my sisters. Bye!Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
