  • It would be full of mean wandering around, naked, starving, having been evicted as there was no rent paid/electic paid/food in the cupboards!! Maybe all women should have a 'mass strike' just for experimental/entertainment purposes and see who is left standing at the end of the fortnight!!

Always makes me think of that joke where the man comes in from work and wonders what is going on, it looks like that they have been burgled. There are plates, cups, toys, paper and clothing all over the floor, water running, cushions off the sofa, washing up bowl full, kids, cats and dogs fighting and pulling each others clothes/hair, beds unmade, fridge open, milk on the side, cearal all over the floor.... the husband says 'good grief, what happened around here?' the wife said 'when you asked me what I do all day, well today I didn't do it'. LOL!! How very true!!
:rotfl: :rotfl: This is so scarily like my house- does he watch footy all dayas well, if on a day off?

Oh god no, not football he does not like it thank god. He does spend a rathe strange amount amount of time watching Red Dwarf, Bottom and Top gear re-runs on Dave & UK Gold!!

Also, he spends loads of time on the PC looking at stuff he cannot afford and making up those bundles on Dell that cost about £10,000 - items we will never have the money for and all I can think is what on earth for. At least on MSE you get something productive out of it!! I guess he seems me all day on here thinking 'what is she doing' and when I take a sneaky peek at hime cearching car insurance databases for cars we could only afford if we did the lottery (we don't) and I sit here thinking !!!!!!!! And the tax return still goes unanswered!!

Oh this will make you laugh.... I said to hubby one day 'sausage & mash for tea?' and he said 'no, I don't like Mash really'. I said 'what, you always have mash, and he said 'well, I don't really like it, it makes me gag'. LOL, at this time we had been married for 5 years and I could quite live on mash potatoes as they are so gorgeous. Why he chose to tell me on that day he hated mash potatoes I will never know so now I have to tae them out before I mash them for myself and the kids!! LOL!!

You said he is/was an academic - I take it from that either a college or university lecturer. Why not try these people - used to be National Union of Teachers. They have a helpline and may be able to put you in touch with either someone who can advise about support for your husband as he is unwell or support for you.

I also think a lot (not all) of men feel out of control when we take charge of the finances etc - my hubby is the same at the moment - almost as if we are doing there job for them and they don't like it so they will go into their cave and sulk about it. Being sarcastic is just their way of trying to say - it should be me doing that and I don't feel like a real man because you are . Please remember that although we have evolved over thousands of years there is still the hunter gathherer instinct to "protect" the family and provide for them and in his current situation being ill menas he has had to give that up. He feels as if he isn't even able to do his job as a man for his wife and family. Women have suddenly over the past 60 years come into there own and although we have "evolved" to understand we can do things previously we were told we couldn't like work and raise a family and sometimes we are actually quite good at things such as people management and multi tasking - it doesn't mean all men have evolved emotionally enough to accept and support that - even if they are very intelligent. I am not saying this is true of all men so please do not jump down my throat but it is true of some.

It may be that by empathising with him- eg understanding what he may be feeling, loss of health, loss of freedom, loss of control it may give you a better insight into how to help him and therfore yourself.

Sorry that was much longer than I planned to write and if you don't agree with what I say that is fine - just my personal view on these things.
