I need some practical advice. I need/want to get a piece of home gym equipment so that I can exercise whenever I like. I'm not good at using the dvd regulary (that means shoving the kids out of the room and moving the coffee table out of the way) and I have to be careful about hurting my back (BTW Wendy pulled it a bit last night doing situps - but at least I tried!:o ). I thought of a treadmill but then it might be too noisy for the neighbours and now I'm thinking of a crosstrainer. But which one? Does anyone have a piece of gym equipment they love or loathe and why? Any recommendations?I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

tagz, I've got one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3026603/Trail/searchtext%3ESTEPPER.htm it was a present at Christmas and cost £15, but I see it's gone up. It's very compact, easy to use and doesn't make too much noise. The only reason I don't use it is that I am very lazy when it comes to exercise and am trying to STS rather than lose more weight. If I did need to lose weight I would be happy to use it as I could watch the TV at the same time.

I am in the grogery challenge as well, love it, spend too much on the groceries, now moving downwards, where you have to bend to get the biscuits etc, the home brands, the 20p biscuits for the kids, the def no brand names, bought tesco pot noodles yesterday 22p each, kids hated them:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: bought 8p biscuits kids loved them:D0

Tagz, I've got the Kirsty cross trainer, Kirsty bike, and lateral thigh trainer (which I use in combination with hand weights). The cross trainer and thigh trainer/weights burn more calories than the bike.
I have tried 2 different steppers, one with a handle and one mini stepper, but I found that for me personally, they weren't enough of a workout for me and I couldn't get beyond my comfort zone on them. I know others on here swear by them so maybe I was doing it wrong0 -
Thanks FFM and MissyG. I must admit I have a stepper already and can't quite get to grips with it. I had labyrinthitis which killed off one of my balance organs in the ears so I get dizzy easily, and find as there are no handles to steady myself I'm a bit ungainly on it! I've seen the Kirsty cross trainer in argos and was interested. MissyG does it run smoothly (I had an exercise bike in the past with a belt which kept catching) and is it noisy?
Thanks for the help!I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0 -
Ooh, you irreligious lot - all busy on here for a sunday morning and clearly not at church:D .
Picked up my old touring bike from parents attic yesterday to sell, probably on ebay - it's so loverly, but with my knees I just can't see me using it again (and it has been in their attic 20yrs:o ). Prepping clothes to photograph for ebay: have just been given a tailors dummy which will be helpful for that. Struggling with WL big time. Can't seem to take myself in hand, I just seem to want little treats all the time. Start the day determined and crumble(pref apple) at the first hint of sugar in the offing:o . Very frustrating I can't just up the exercise:rolleyes: .
OH working at a NT farm open day today and as the sun is shining I will go and visit it/him I think soon.
Great to see we are setting up our very own WL19 freecycle: tagz:T:A .I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

I know what you mean, I had to wave my arms around quite a bit to balance and stay on. When I got my tennis elbow I just couldn't do it :rotfl: .

Tagz the Kirsty XT is very smooth and has virtually silent operation both forwards and backwards. The other big positives is that it has a small footprint, takes up little space compared to others and is a lot lighter (half the weight of some in a similar price bracket), you can scoot it around 'wheelbarrow' style if you want to move it from room to room as I sometimes do.
Negatives are that assembling it took bloomin' ages (and I'm not a complete girly about home assembly), bolts etc do need to be REALLY tight and it can develop a few squeaks so needs a regular blast with some WD40. Computer isn't the greatest but it's a nice big clear display and it does the job for home use.
No complaints and even if I had twice the budget I'd still buy this one because of the compactness.
