"Microsoft has said it plans to cut the cost of its Windows Vista operating system sold at retail outlets. Although no exact date has yet been given, Microsoft said price cuts would be introduced in 70 countries.
"In the US, the cost of the most expensive version, Vista Ultimate, will be reduced to $319 (£161) from the current retail price of $399.

Ah well there's a surprise. Prices slashed by around 25%.

What would be nice would be if they reduced the cost in the UK to reflect the exchange rate, and allow for taxes.
But even a cut on the current price would be nice.
I'm looking at building myself a new PC soon, and a retail version of the OS is going to cost more than the motherboard and CPU (even the OEM version is half the price of a higher end CPU).

Not sure what the OP is suggesting by 'not suprisingly', probably just Vista bashing for the hell of it.

90% of Vista sales are OEM not retail, if the OEM price was to fall then I could maybe see your point.

And hardly any copies of XP sold are retail either. As there have been over 100,000,000 OEM licences sold, Vista obviously is selling isn't it?

So your point was? Oh yeah, you don't actually have one.

Who would pay for retail when you can buy oem versions with a harddisk cable?

While I liked some features of Vista when it came out it however is one hell of a system resources hog.

I got fed up with it in the end and switched to another OS.
