There were sixty balloons that went up this morning at 6.00am  which was way too early for us to get there after a late night last night. Tonight's night glow and mass ascent were both cancelled while tomorrow's ascent is in major doubt with wind concerns...picked the right time to go.:T
Went to the first football match of the season today and my team drew 1-1. The programme was pretty well received generally and it looked great. Got rained upon but that's normal nowadays... . Spent £1.50 on a programme, £2.00 on car parking and a quid on a Golden Gamble ticket. Spent £2 on a lottery ticket tonight ( unsuccessfully ) and that was it.0 -
Hi Chip! Wow, you've been busy while I've been AWOL. Fab photos of the balloons, I'd love to take my littl'un to something like that, he'd love it. If you're ever going to be up this neck of the woods (Yorkshire) then give us a shout as me & the OH can get them backstage passes at the airport here.
I'll race you to the 5 stone - that's about how much I want to lose too. But it's just so much easier to eat trash, right?!0 -
Hi Panda, thanks for your message and good to see you back....:T
The balloon fiesta is mahoosive down here, 500k people in four days each year and it's all free ( well if you're a DFW you park about half-a-mile away and walk the rest to save yourself £8.00 parking charges ). My two youngest have always loved them and we have been five years running now.
The airport trip would be great. We're planning to get to Heathrow sometime soon to bag a few different numbers ( sad, innit ) but they enjoy it, I quite like it and it costs nothing bar the petrol to get there....:T
Nice to see you back. How long have you been gone for? As for the five stone, I've stalled a bit recently but its staying off, just not coming off any quicker...0 -
Blimey, I'm whacked now. In less than half an hour, the weekend has caught up with me. Just chilled this morning, had lunch then off to the airport to see the Red Arrows. Thewy took off just as we got there, did their display then flew back in again for refuelling and took off again about 6.15pm. DS2 and DS3 loved them and when they were parked up, we were less than a hundred feet from them.... , smart looking beasts they were...:D
Took a picnic so I didn't have to get them tea when we got back. DS2 fell asleep in the car on the way home as a weekend of the Red Arrows, trip to the airport, an evening at the balloon fiesta and a football match finally caught up with him. A no-spend day today too, I think, so definitely value for money...:T . Took them home at 7.30pm, still doesn't get any easier after 3.5 years of doing it....:(
Tomorrow brings catalogues and maybe delivering leaflets that arrived yesterday morning.0 -
Today's spend - £10.00 on diesel and £8.80 on shopping at Tesco's ( eight Clubcard points )...
In other news, delivered 130 catalogues this morning and got another 100 ready for tomorrow morning. Might leave them until late morning as it's forecast to rain hard tomorrow and I've already been soaked 74 times this month.... . Morning and evening post runs as usual although I'm only covering for Simon's holiday for one more week....:T . It does help get the debt to them down a bit though without handing over any cash at all.
Boys mum rang up today, she's off to two concerts in three days in a fortnight so I can have the boys from 10.00am on the Thursday morning till 6.00pm Sunday nights.... :j  :j  :j .
Tomorrow? Two post runs, 100 catalogues and a raincoat pretty much sums it up.:D0 -
Ha ha, I see spotters every day and yes, they are the mockery of the aviation world! But it's ok if it's for the kids, it's the old blokes whose life revolves around collecting numbers that get me. My old boss would see some little aeroplane and say something like 'Hmmm, G-AF, I last saw that in Popham, in 1986'. Now that's sad! If you're heading north east though, just give us a shout.
I've lost my scales so don't know how much I weigh to start. I'm trying to be very good so don't want to waste 50p in Boots. Must get the garage cleared out!
Have fun with those catalogues!0 -
I'm not that bad, honestly. . The boys used to watch "Airport" and "Airline" on tv and one day asked to go to the airport. I took them, they loved it and we started going out every 2/3 weeks. After a while, they started asking if they'd seen that plane before or this plane before and I coudn't truthfully answer. I got an aircraft markings book and began to mark them down so we could tell.
Three years on and following the weekend, we're up to 644 numbers now. Not in the same league as the pro spotters, one guy there has tens of thousands of numbers which is bordering on the obsessive IMO. They ask to go out most weekends but if they didn't want to go out again, it's no great loss to any of us.....0 -
Hi Chip - if it makes you feel better my kids are "Stobart" spoters :rotfl: We have been know to follow a truck so we can spot the name :T They are in the club so they have the spotter guide and fight over who is going to put the new spots on the computer

I like bridges, does that count? I get right excited if we're going somewhere with a nice bridge I haven't seen before. My OH's mate's mum collects car registration numbers. I just don't get that at all!
Stressed Mum, you'd have LOVED my old local when I lived in Carlisle - it was at the end of the road where Stobart's depot was, and you got a head on view of every wagon as it turned out towards the M6!0
