My husband just phoned up and asked Sky if we could cut the movies & sports down due to cash constraints and they dropped it to £30 for the next three months!

We also did the Setanta special offer of £5 a month for three months, phoned to cancel it (only had it on for the boxing!) and they gave us another 3 months for the same rate!

Finally . . . I told Orange I was thinking of leaving & they gave me a super upgrade free of charge and £10 a month off my bill - I never use my monthly allowance & we tend to use our mobiles instead of the land line, so we're laughing!

  • I recently left Madasafish broadband to migrate to a new provider, I had been a customer for 20 months and was paying £17.99/month for a 5GB monthly download limit. On my first call to cancel they I asked me why I wanted to do so, I said I was looking for a higher download limit, they immediately offered me a 20GB monthly limit for the same price, I said I would think about it. The next day I said I was not interested and wanted to cancel, they then dropped the monthly cost to £15.99 for 20GB a month, I again said I was not interested, they said someone would call me back. A few days later I received a call and they dropped the monthly cost to £13.99 for a 20GB monthly limit (all the above fees were subject to signing up to a new 12 month contract). As I was not happy with the speed I was getting with Madasafish I decided to cancel anyway, I'm sure there are many Madasafish customers that could easily get a better deal by simply calling and asking for one.

    Just some advice please....

I currently pay £45p/m for the sports and movies on SKY...and we have approx 4 months on our contract left. Will I be able to get my bill down to £30 if I ring to cancel the sports and movies? Surely they would just decrease the cost to the advertised rates? Do you only get the £30 rate if you are out of your minimum contract period?

We also have Setanta... and pay the £9.99p/m for this... has anyone tried ringing up and cancelling when not on the original offer for £5p/m and did they get any deals?...I don't think my OH would appreciate me ACTUALLY cancelling his beloved Setanta...

Just wanted to say thanks to all the people that left their tips.... I am really trying to cut back on my bills.... and in the last few weeks have cut down my annual bills down by around £400... Realised we were on the highest tarrifs for electricity, home phone, broadband.... and paying for mobile insurance twice!!! :embarasse That is what happens when you leave blokes to sort out the bills.... too eager to get it out the way so they can watch the footy!

Rang sky a few months ago as people on hotukdeals were getting free sky plus. Didn't get it free but got it for £49 no installation charge when threatened to leave.

Rang o2 last month when contract up and got my tariff halfed to £15 and double texts.

BT contract runs out May hoping I can get a better deal or will move.

  • I read through this thread yesterday and thought to myself 'what have i got to lose?' i rang virgin media and 'threatened' to leave, got redirected to customer relations, and spoke to a very nice gentleman there. Before, i was on
    phone: talk evening and weekends
    TV: starter pack
    Broadband: M (2mb)
    paying : £45 a month

    now i have
    phone: talk evening and weekends
    TV: XL
    Broadband: L (4mb rising to 10 mb)
    paying: £35 month

i'm happy with the package he offered, but is this a good deal or should i have held out a little longer?

    Hi all,

saw this post from the email link & decided to call sky to see if they can reduce. Currently pay £5 unlimited calls, £10 for HD & then £21 for sky package so £36 a month. Called & said struggling as got new (ish) baby, in process of moving house & can they please help me as I'd hate to have to cancel totally.

Guy I spoke to said ok, drop 1 channel off package, that saves £1 a month- big wow eh? Then he said if I reduced to limited calls its free 6pm-6am & weekends. then changed his mind & said actually, I can give you unlimited calls (which we have currently for the £5) free for a year. Bonus! Then I asked about the HD- I had actually called them a month or so ago to ask if I could drop this bit as not many HD channels & they said no as I was tied in to a 12 month contract so had to wait til this was up- think I only took it out in September) anyway- so he said, oh yes, you could cancel the HD subscription & save another £10 so of course I didnt point out what I'd been told earlier. So total saving of £16 a month which isnt huge but makes some difference. I'm happy with it & as the saying round here goes "Shy bairns get nowt"
Mortgage Balance May 25- £9975. Planning to be paid off by Dec 25🎄

I didn't threaten to leave, but just asked if I could be put onto a cheaper tariff, which due to subscribing through a nectar deal wasn't possible, before I had chance to mention that I wasn't getting priority films, the nice man at the other end offered me three months for free, so I'll call them back in three months and see what I get then

I planned to leave Lovefilm. They asked me to phone to cancel and asked why I ws leaving. I told them it was because I was not getting the priority films - the ones I wanted most. They gave me a free month to 'give them another chance'. Got a good selection that free month!

I've got my aol free for the next 3 months after threatening to leave. They are so bad at the moment I might just leave after the 3 months are up anyway!

I rang orange to cancel my broadband last year, i was paying £17.99 a month, for 2meg speed.Got offered 6 months free then £9.99 for the next and a new modem.Which i thought would be just a standard usb, they sent there live box (wireless routre) and on 8 meg speed. Did have to ring them the first 2 months as they tryed to charge me, but all worked ok. I've just come to the end of the free period.

Phoned up Dollond & Aitchison Contact Lenses by Post for which I am paying £39 a month. Said I was thinking of leaving as it was too expensive and they gave me 3 months free with no commitment to stay afterwards!
