  • I had a student contract with orange for 2 years, £35 a month for 200 mins and 1000 texts. It got to the point where I was always going over so I rang up to cancel. Got a free upgrade, and now I have 600 mins and unlimited texts for £20/month. Bargin!

Called BT to cancel my Broadband - Upgraded me to Option 2 and reduced my monthly bill from £17.99 to £12.99 got a Free Homehub as well - Free speed upgrade from 1meg to 2 meg and then got my phone rental reduced from £12.99 to £11.00 and upgraded my call option as well - Figured out to be a saving of around £150.00 compared to new customer and also only a 12 month contract not 18 month as well - Bargin!!!!!
All with out me question anything - All I said was I want to cancel and that's what they offered me to keep me!!!!!
  • Paying AOL £17.99 a month for Broadband, I phoned up and asked for a MAC number as I wanted to move to Tiscali. Within two minutes they offered to reduce this to £9.99. Try it, even if you don't want to move.

(I actually do want to move - even at £9.99, I still have to pay another £10.50 a month for a BT line. With Tiscali £19.99 gets me free line rental & weekend calls, broadband, a wireless router and Tiscali TV including movie selections, freeview, Sky 1,2,3 and Sky Arts (bliss!!!) FX and a couple of cartoon channels for the kids.

Adios, AOL. Too little too late.

I just rung Sky and said I wanted to cancel my sky+ as the box wasn't working properly, and didn't want to pay the £65 [As I have had it for longer than a year, they charge £65 for someone to come out to repair it or replace it with a reconditioned one].

They said "howabout I send out a repair man and don't charge you. Will you consider staying with us then?":D

  • I accepted a free trial of Talk Talk's talk3 international package. I was going to cancel at the end if the trial but they offered me it for £5.49 a month. It costs me £15.98 per month for my landline, free local and national landline calls 24/7, free broadband, cheaper international calls with some free ones and a discount on up to 16 mobile numbers.

I also threatened to cancel my AOL package. They offered me the £17.49 silver package for £9.99 per month!

Thank you for this inpirational thread! It made me get off my bum and do something rather than just whinging about the prices. When asking AOL for my MAC code (phone no. 0800 200 6244) I was suddenly offered £10 off my monthly bill and a free wireless router as a "valued customer".
    :T
    Now hunting for Sky's number!
I never realised saving money could be such fun.....:EasterBun

I've been with AOL on nearly as long as they've been going but I've never had many problems since going broadband, no limits, good speed etc. Used to be 0800 now 0845, better that than 0870 or any 09's. A few years ago decided 17.99 was too dear, better offers on tv etc. Rang, said the magic words cancel or better it. "We can't" so they put me through to "the one who can". Got £9.99/month for life, 2mb unlimited and a free router. Where's that offer" I asked, "We don't advertise this it's just for us to offer customers who want to leave". Good at the time, still good now for non cabled area. Mum was on dial up paying £6/month! Rang last week told them give her my offer or bye bye. Said she can have unlimited dial up for £9.99. No Way, Byeee. Got put through to the one who can and they did. Exact same as me, router, £9.99 for life, best 8mb speed, no download limits. Stuff arrived in 10 days and set it up in under a hour. I should be getting a referal fee (£50 I think) as well. Done and dusted. I know there's home phone offers etc with other providers but we are tied in with BT for that and we didn't want to change email addresses. I Now need to call them and blag the 8mb speed for me!

My dad's been an AOL customer for 10 years. So, knowing about their offer to give new customers a free laptop and wireless router when they sign up to the £19.99 ADSL Max package for 24 months, I rang up AOL and threatened to cancel (on my dad's behalf). Got offered the same deal as new customers for the same price, which is what he's paying anyway. He had no intention to cancel, but AOL don't know that. So, basically a free Hewlett Packard laptop and new wireless router/modem for no extra cost.
