The great "what can you blag by threatening to leave' hunt

I just tried calling SKY.
They weren't willing to budge; didn't offer me anything to really keep me.
Maybe they've caught on to all the MSE users calling them.0 -
About 2 years ago, after being with Tmobile for 18months, they offered me a discount instead of a new handset so I kept my old handset and got Flex35 (£35/month contract) for £14 a month due to a 25% Flex introductory offer and loyalty discount.
I just recently renewed this contract, keeping my old handset and paying just £14/month.:rotfl:0 -
Both of them in the last month
a) Vodafone:
- situation: my £25 a month contract for 200 min ended 2 months ago, wanted to leave for Virgin £10 a month for 300 min, I already bought a new phone for Virgin (se w810)
- result: somebody called me the day after I asked my pac code, and they reduced the price of my contract to £10 (price-match virgin) + they gave me a brand new se w880, which I can sell on eBay for £80 (if I can unlock the w810).
- net profit: over the next year = (25-10)x12 + (80-30) = £230
b) AA breakdown
- situation: breakdown cover was ending, renewal price is £50 (even though new customer play only £35!)
- result: after calling them, and mentionning the RAC price after quidco, got it down to £24
- net profit: £26
PS: Vodafone will do ANYTHING to keep you from leaving them, you just need the right arguments (i.e. price of cheapest contract from competition + say you already bought another phone)0 -

My parents got Pipex broadband, 8meg, no caps, and free weekend and evening calls, at £6.50 a month. Quite impressive.
But since Pipex have been bought by Tiscali they've had nothing but trouble with the broadband dropping out, even the phone line went dead for days at a time. Will soon be switching to Talk Talk, who do a very good deal, and hopefully provide at least _some_ customer support.0 -

Hi Destiny_star,
When you signup for any of the things described (sky, broadband, mobile) You sign a minimum term contract, when this term expires, your contract continues until you give notice. So yes, to leave, you normally have to complete your minimum term.

Last year when our RAC breakdown cover was due for renewal I checked out the AA online then called the RAC to see what they could do. After first telling me that I did not quallify for the 'no call out discount', which is true as we did call them out, I just said "that's fine the AA wins this year".
They then tried to offer me more cover for the same price which I refused as I don't need the higher cover. Last of all they offered the higher cover and extended for 3 months so it will last 15 months instead of the normal 12. I did some quick maths and found that the RAC now cost less per month than the level of cover I needed from the AA and I had higher level cover should I need it which so far I have not. Result!
I will do the same again this year, I wonder who will win.

First check on http://www.saynoto0870.com/ for a freephone or normal area code number. Then for the normal area codes use http://www.18185.co.uk and get the call for just 5p no matter how long it takes. Also check on your card for an overseas phone number chop off the +44 and replace with 0 and you have their normal area code number.0 -
