by telling them we had cheaper quotes (home and contents insurance) elsewhere. They offered 25 to start, then increased to £40 when pressed. May have gone further but we didnt try. Needed to stay with them as we are about to make a claim for damaged drains which the contractor will take about a month to process apparently, and the insurance comes up for renewal in that time. Naturally we didn't tell them that.

Also phoned Barclaycard a few months ago to moan about my ridiculously high 19.9% interest rate and got transferred to the "customer loyalty" department who offered:

Option 1: A fixed rate of 11.9%

Option 2: 6.9% if I spend £50 a month on the card
13.9% if I spend £25 a month on the card
18.9% if I spend nothing

I went for the second option.

Just phoned O2 to cancel my sim only contract, £15 a month for 220 mins 400 texts,
"retentions" couldn't help so asked for address for O2 disconnections, sent the letter yesterday last post, today recieved a call from the "real retentions", they asked what I would need to stay with O2, I said I am leaving because Orange are doing a better deal 325 mins 100 texts, They would need to match it or I was leaving so he came back to me with this offer,
18 month contract,
online £30 for £15 per month,
400 mins, 1000 texts, plus O2 treats extra 20 mins
£180 cashback, (equal to first 12 months free), for not taking a new phone
O2 to O2 free,
Free itemised billing (normally £1),
So I took the deal, what a bargain.
Saved a total of,
£5 discount on online £20 = £270
saved by not taking a new mobile = £180
itemised billing = £18
total saved £468 over 18 months!!
that works out as £90 for 18 month contract,
that is just £5 a month.:rotfl:
• I was with 3 for my mobile phone - on a cash back deal, when the contract was due for renewal, I telephoned to cancel. I was on 500 minutes and 250 texts per month for £35. I had no intention of staying with them - there are lots of other offers around. They kept phoning me every couple of days with better offers, I refused them all - just a few days before my contract would have expired they offered me a package of 400 minutes and 250 texts per month, on a 18 month contract at £35 per month and they credited my account with 17 months worth of credit - end result - I got a contract for 18 months and only have to pay month 18 - £35. The downside is that they wouldn't offer me an upgrade!
• i phoned park holidays uk as id seen a deal online and wanted to book... told the girl all my details and she said "thats £220...a bit bemused i said...its alot less online....with this the girl said "i'll have a look on the computer". and low and behold same holiday £105!! website didnt even say this low so for a week holiday for 6 what a bargain!!
• Just to contribute, we had a second hand Sky+ box, with only one line (pretty useless).

A call to Sky by my other half and a few threats, and we got a brand new box and free installation!

I cancelled Virgin this week.

I am currently on:

XL TV
Fastest broadband
Sports/Movies

Currently paying £61 a month.

Nice girl on the phone but seemed quite disinterested in my obvious attempts at trying to get an offer to stay.

She suggested I remove some of the tv packs. I want to keep them all so that was a no.

She then offered a free phone line. Well, me and my partner both have mobiles with perfect signals from home and free calls to everyone. So not needed.

She then offered a free phone line and bizzarely to remove the Sports/Movies combo and would reduce the bill by about £9 a month. That was nonsensical as if I removed Sports/Movies myself I would save about £20 a month!!

I went ahead with the cancellation on Thursday. Haven't had a phone call from them yet to offer anything better but will post details here if they do (fingers crossed).

Does anyone know what sort of timescale I could wait (within the 30 cancellation days) before they will ring me with an offer?

I got called a couple of weeks into my cancellation period. Was offered TV XL, weekend & evening calls, Sky sports, and Broadband M for £48 per month. THey are getting considerably tighter with the deals they are offering. As a final sweetener I received a V+ box installed for nowt. I decided to stay as I couldn't be bothered to go through the hastle of changing email addresses everywhere and having a new phone line installed by BT.

AOL cut my broadband subscription to £14.99 a month (down from £24.99) and upgraded me from Bronze (2MB) to Silver (8MB) package when I told them I was unhappy with their service and was thinking of migrating to BTinternet. Bonus ;)

I phoned aol & told them I wanted to cancel. They upgraded me to Gold, sent me a new router, doubled my speed & halved my subscription to £9.99 a month.

I also phoned the AA yesterday and told them I wasn't going to renew as it was too expensive. I pay for the roadside, relay & homestart package (£144) for peace of mind. (I do a lot of motorway driving with only 2 young children for company) They offered me a price reduction of £50. The man I spoke to said that discounts are available for people who ask for them.
Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j

Hi,
I see some people are reluctant to change internet suppliers as they have to set up new email accounts again.
If you get a hotmail account eg johnsmith@hotmail.co.uk or @hotmail.com
you are not tied to any internet supplier and its free!

cheers,
Andrew.
