I recieved an email yesterday to say that my McAfee virus scan had renewed automatically. I was a little peeved so then spent the next half an hour trying to figure out how the hell to get it refunded and cancelled. Finally managed to speak to an online operator person who offered me a 50% discount if I paid by credit card.

I turned it down, but it might be useful to someone.

Not quite sure what you mean, you said it had updated and you were working out how to get a refund then you were asked to pay again by credit card?

Because it had already been updated, they offered to let him keep it for 50% if he paid by credit card rather than cancelling it.

Why on earth are you paying for virus protection? Use AVG (https://www.grisoft.com) it's FREE and excellent.

That's why I cancelled!

And thanks for clarifying that pinkpig...yes, they were going to refund it, and then give it to me for 1/2 price if I paid by c/card. Apologies, I was so tired last night when I was typing that, I guess it didn't make much sense :o

Hi,
I see some people are reluctant to change internet suppliers as they have to set up new email accounts again.
If you get a hotmail account eg johnsmith@hotmail.co.uk or @hotmail.com
you are not tied to any internet supplier and its free!

cheers,
Andrew.

I ditched orange broadband at the start of this year and still have my orange email address
• i threatened to leave sky and was given an offer of sky+ for free. All i had to pay was £60 setup costs. As i hadnt a penny to my name and it had to be done at that moment i said no i wanted to cancel. 2 weeks befor i was due to be 'switched off' i got a flyer through the post for free sky+ and free connection, so in theory i have got it all for nothing, and it is just costing me my subscription.

After reading this great thread, i managed to get my car insurance halved and yesterday rung SKY and they offered me three months for free! In January, i may use them for TV and broadband but only with a decent deal - what should/could i get??!

Am now on a mission to get some sort of deal with my credit card which i always pay off but get absolutely no benefits for! :D

Thanks MSE!
