I didn't think debit cards had the same protection as credit cards. Credit cards will refund your money in the event of a company going bust, but I thought Debit cards left you to deal with it. Has this changed?0 -
I have to stress a word of warning in using credit card for internet transactions. Some of you may remember the days of splashdvd.com. I purchased a DVD which was only around the ten poounds mark with my capital one credit card. DVD never turned up, and the company went into adminstration. Capital One refused to refund the fees as they stated they did not cover internet transactions.
I completely crap myself this morning when I saw this message about Tiny going into adminstration. I (foolish as I am) recently purchased one of their 42" plasma screen packages back in June, which I was expecting delivery for in August. This obviously will not get delivered now (all phone numbers are engaged, or remain in a queue). The plasma costs #999.00 and they took the money from the card as soon as I made the purchase - when in reality they should take it when delivered, or due to be delivered.
I purchased the plasma on a Marbles card, so quickly phoned them up to see where I stand. They basically said that I may receive a letter from the administrators who may refund the money. If not, then I am covered by the card. The transaction is now in a disputed status and will be on hold until a resolution has been sorted.
I would definately recommend checking with you credit card asap if you were fortunate enought to put the transation on the card. Just make sure they do cover internet transactions - I quickly switched from Capital One following that fiasco! To Stooze or Not To Stooze - Theres only one option0 -
OK - don't suppose you have any thoughts on where to get a good bargain PC from (problem is I want powerful and cheap) - only need the box as everything else is good. It's worth trying to build it yourself cos then you know exactly what you're getting and it's a good learning experience. If you a tecky person I avoid Dell as well again many people say they are good to me I rather choose different laptop make......Thanks to all who post constructively.

I wouldn't touch their computers unless the gave them away - even then I'd have to think about it.0

i purchased an extended warentee with my Time PC - and it was supposed to be refunded back to me, if I didn't make a claim against it - which I haven't - with 4 months to go - it doesn't look like i will be getting that refund now0

This is also what they are saying on the TV business news this morning. It seems that there will be very little money left for the ordinary people who bought in good faith and are suggesting that people should go immediately to their credit card companies to log a claim. They also said that people without the protection of a credit card purchase may lose everything.
What a horrible situation.

I dunno - extended warranties are ususally provided by a completely different company - who might still be trading.0 -
Extended warranty money is supposed to be ringfenced, but the laws have not been tightened up sufficiently to make it enforceable.
If anyone has bought a Time/Tiny extended warranty on a Credit Card recently, it's definitely worth calling the CC company to clarify the position.0 -
Thanks tin and 5bellies for your info i will ring the c/c company on monday regarding this issue.
If i could find out it would still be honoured for the 3 yr on a seperate contract they i assume my mum would actually keep the warranty but I myself am wiery of this£2.00 savings club =£2.000
