can you add seeds to the 50/50 recipe and how much would you add? Would you reduce the flour accordingly? Is it better to use a wholemeal recipe?0

Pizza dough only needs the one rise that the BM does for you.
Absolutely but I make it early and just leave it in the breadmaker until I'm ready. It does rise more and I end up with a lovely fluffy pizza.
For the second rise I just shape it into the pizza pan and it stays there whilst I prepare the veggies, usually about ten mins. I dont put it anywhere warm or anything.0 -

Yes you can, seeds go well in a 50/50 recipe but do not change the amount of flour. I used about 2 tablespoons each of sunflower, pumpkin and poppy seeds, but thats does make quite a seedy loaf. Depends how much you like!0 -
Hi There,
Ive been using my Panasonic SD 254 breadmaker for a few weeks now, and will never go back to shop bought bread.
Ive just been making basic bread, and want to try different breads, so, I was looking at the recipes I got with the breadmaker.
On some of the recipes, it says next to them (SD 255 only)!!! Does this mean some of the recipes can only be used for the SD 255 machine only.
Would be very grateful for some replies.
Jackie
This had me very confused for a while and I thought I had a faulty machine, then I realised it means that the timer function will only work with the sd225 as the recipe requires seeds etc to be added so only the sd255 can do that automatically. You can still make the recipes in the other one you just have to be around to add the bits at the right time or put them in at the beginning (although I've found that it doesn't rise as well if you do this, presumably because the bits break the bread fibres?). Hope this helps.0 -
re the seeds I can't believe how manay the recipe book says you need, it says 10 tablespoons for the XL loaf which is loads too many. Anyone else noticed this? I assume it's best to just ignore this and add the 2 tablespoons or so that have been mentioned?!0

You can buy a seed mix from Julian Graves - Omega 3 mix I think it's called. Has pumpkin, flax, sunflower and I think sesame. You could probably get something similar in Holland and Barrett?
I use around 7 tablespoons which makes for a nice seedy loaf (I prefer more rather than less). Tastes great whether in a wholemeal or white loaf.

I buy my seeds separately* & vary the mix according to what I fancy at the time
it also works out cheaper for me because I use such a lot of themfor instance my health food store ordered me a 1Kg bag of poppy seeds which cost around £3-ish, which was a huge saving over buying them in smaller packs/tins/jars
much as I love seeds, must say I'm not too keen on the hemp, it has a brittle quality I don't care for, so I'm glad I only got a little bag of them to try out first. maybe I'll try soaking them before I use them next time
*it's also handy to be able to crush/grind the flax seeds before using them if you're interested in getting the benefit from their nutrients, otherwise they act like sweetcorn in your digestive system0 -
Hi guys,
Apologies for my first post being a request for assistance, but having taken up the PS254 for £40 before Xmas, we've not been getting the results we expected.
We've only just got around to making our 3rd loaf in the machine today, and all three haven't had that fresh bakery type smell or taste. They look fine. They feel fine. They smell and taste... bland. We've tried the White and the Wholemeal on fast bake, and just now the Wholemeal on full time of 5 hours or so. No difference at all. We've even used Allinson's best quality bread flour this time.
We're using the recipes from the instructions booklet. Are you guys using different recipes? Is it just our bread machine is faulty? Are our noses not working properly? When you all comment on the 'fantastic smell' of the bread, is it just like walking past a bakery in the good old days? How many more questions can I fit into one paragraph? Sorry!
Thanks for any guidance you can offer.
