You're probably all miles ahead of me but have you tried the hot cross buns..absolutely gorg!! I also tried to price mine and I reckon even with the electric they're slightly cheaper than the BOGOFF ones and so much nicer and without all the preservatives etc. It's also been on today for 2 gorg pizza for 3 of us , 2 massive pizzas, one bacon and tomato, one tuna and green pepper, I reckon they cost me less than £2 and were really 'meaty'. It's now on for french bread for packed lunches tomorrow and there'll probably be a white loaf on overnight for tomorrow. I'm so glad I knew about this thanks to all you panny lovers and the decision to get one on half price from amazon was one of the best things I've done in ages. Hope they have the same offer again so so that others can benefit. PHEW!0

Hi, Ive just bought a Panasonic breadmaker from Ebay.
I couldnt afford to pay £70-£100 I got a refurbished one for £45.
I have been amazed how easy it is.
Only problem I have is that we feel the bread is a little doughy? a bit heavy.
I have been using Tescos flour and butter, dried milk, tescos yeast and I was wondering if one of these causes the doughy effect?
Thanks for reading.0 -

Well I am loving my Panny - so far I have made lovely white, wholemeal, 50/50, ciabatta loaves & bread dough for rolls.
I have also managed to make ONE decent granary loaf but the last 2 I have made have come out risen on one side but sunk on the other side!
I was trying to work out why the difference between the first loaf and the last 2 as I used all the same ingredients. The only difference was that for the first loaf I used the ordinary bread programme (think I made a medium loaf) but for the 2 subsequent loafs I used the sandwich setting.
Any advice appreciated please. If not, I will use the ordinary loaf programme next time rather than the sandwich one and see if that resolves it.
Many thanks.

Hi All,
Tried another granary loaf and it sank again, sort of mis-shapen on the top????Any ideas how I can rectify this please? I have made 4 granary loaves so far and only the first one was properly risen.
I've been using Hovis Granary flour. It is still edible but obviously the slices are smaller as it is not fully risen.
Would appreciate any feedback and solutions please as I will not let it beat me! :rolleyes:
Many thanks.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

hi clutterfree - why don't youtry one of the Hovis Granary bread mixes (2 for £1 at Asda) - if that works ok, then at least you know the machine is ok, and it may just be your yeast or flour, or recipe that's at fault - all my bread has turned out great in my Panny since I bought it several weeks ago, and I have used mixes as well as recipes from the included booklet - good luck, hope this helps0

Thanks Deebee.
I know the BM is not at fault as my white and wholemeal turn out fine - as did my first granary. I used the same flour etc for the next granary loaf so I don't know why it didn't work that time.
I'm the only one who eats granary in the family so it is not a major problem as it still tastes the same - but it IS infuriating me!
Don't have an Asda nearby but may try one bread mix next time I go to the supermarket, although it is an expensive way of doing it when I have the flour, yeast, etc at home.
Can anyone recommend a good granary flour please?Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Are you sure you are using the right programme for granary?
If so:
Try using warm water instead of cold;
Use a little less salt;
make sure you are adding the sugar;0 -

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, the 1st loaf that worked I used the wholemeal bake as instructed in the recipe and it rose well. The next 2 I used the sandwich recipe and setting - both sunk on one side. This week decided to go back to the wholemeal bake recipe thinking it would work again but this was the worst loaf yet! :rolleyes:
I am using lukewarm water not cold, 1tsp sugar and 1tsp salt.
It's driving me mad - can you tell?!Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.
