I had one slight problem, in that one end of the top seems to be a bit puffy and has a gap or bubble of air between it and the rest of the loaf. Doesn't really bother me, but does anyone know why it happened?

This is often caused by too much liquid, it depends on the flour you use as to how much liqud it absorbs

I have seen folk say to put about 10ml less water than recipe says in a panny

Try it & see. Have a peek once mixing starts just to check it is not too solid, or if too wishy washy add a sprinkle of flour to it

Well, I am on a roll! Bought the ciabatta ready mix from Lidl (99p made two loaves), did it on the french bread setting and I would have to say it is my lightest, tastiest yet. My OH is concerned about eating it as he claims to get indigestion after eating home made bread - has anyone else had this?

Has anyone else found that the Panasonic recipes all have too much water? I know flour varies, but surely not that much!

Thanks Farway - I'll remember that for next time. My gorgeous loaf is still gorgeous (sister and friend VERY impressed), but is very hard to cut evenly; next time I'll do the medium instead of extra large and see if that improves it.

Going to put one of my pre-bought loaf mixes on now to see what I end up with.

Glad to hear of your success! Not sure about the indigestion  My OH hadn't eaten bread for over a year because he reckons it upsets his stomach, but since getting the Panny and having home-made bread, he has found it's OK and he can tolerate it without problems. So I'd assumed home-made was easier to digest

Hi I have just become the proud owner of a panasonic sd253:j and I have to say the bread is lovely. I just have a quick question the recipes that came with it use a lot of sugar (1tbsp) and I was just looking a the recipe book for the sd255/254 and they use only a 1tsp does anyone know if the recipes from the new model will work in my one?

1tbsp of sugar sounds an awful lot. I would definitely try with 1 tsp, and see how that works. I wonder if it is a typo in the handbook - does it say it on all recipes?

    Best wishes,

    White.

Thanks for that - yes they all say 1tbsp even the pizza dough  will try the other recipes from the new book and see if they work.

I only use a scant tsp of sugar or honey and it rises fine. I also use the cheap Lidl flour at 48p for 1.5kg. I make wholemeal loaves as I grind half the flour myself as and when I want it so its really fresh. I used yesterdays potato/carrot water to make this loaf. http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i119/cooip/?action=view&current=bread.jpg[/IMG]
