I got my Panny at Christmas too and love it, though I was getting a tad fed up with the constant crumbs and uneven slices, not to mention trying to keep the bread fresh. So I bought one of these, from this place

Its been great, let the bread cool down completely though before you put it in, it keeps the bread fresh for days, I cut the whole loaf in one go and then keep slices in the keeper, its a really good purchase and I figured in the long run it would be cheaper than buying bread bags:cool:

Skyegirl, I know you mean well BUT please....please....no more gadgets, I want each and every one I see!!:D I have just bought a clothes steamer off Ebay so I am not allowed another thing for 4 months, but I shall book mark the page for this and see if I can resist until then. Hope the price does not go up.

Seriously thanks for posting this - it looks wonderful.

Two questions now for you trying-very-trying,
1 what type/brand of flour are you using
    2 what brand of yeast

oh and another one - is the work surface level that the machine is standing on?

It`s driving me mad this one, i know that there is a temperature sensor in the front part inside the bm and it`s quite easy to bang this with the pan.

  • I really didn't want to wast any more mix in it. I think I'll maybe try with just some plain value flour and water, it's only 17p. When it was working with the mix, though, it did sound like it was whacking a lump of something. I wish this machine had a see through window! Thanks, though, and I'll keep you posted!"

Just wanted to say, I went to Lidl's today, their strong bread flour is on offer at 41p per 1.5kg bag, this is at the Lidl's in Street, Somerset.

I must have missed this post earlier, I, most recently, I've been using the bread mix from Aldi, as recommended by someone else in this thread, so it's the pantry mix. The thing is I got a loaf from the same mix, earlier in the week, and it was the best loaf I have had from the machine.
It is sitting on a level surface. I'm just about sick of it, but I will try again tomorrow...I hate to admit defeat!!!! But it starting to get costly!

Just tucking into my first loaf from my Panasonic, and wow - just wow. It's like the best crustiest yet spongiest uncut white loaf baked in a supermarket. I honestly didn't know homebaked bread could be this good; I was used to my Hinari which made yellowy madeira-like brickish concoctions. Definitely a convert here! I think even DH may like it.

I had one slight problem, in that one end of the top seems to be a bit puffy and has a gap or bubble of air between it and the rest of the loaf. Doesn't really bother me, but does anyone know why it happened?

    Hi,
is the plain value flour strong bread flour?
I know that most supermarkets cheapest range isn`t bread flour and makes bricks in breadmakers.
I have used Morrisons strong white breadflour and also asda but i always get a better loaf from the Morrisons flour, i think it`s about 60 odd pence a bag.
I always put 10ml of water less than the bread recipe says to as well.

Thanks, sd, I think you misunderstood me. I was only going to use basic flour and water, so I could watch it in operation, but I have decided to give it a go with the last of the breadmix, and just watch it for 20mins. At least I'll be able to see if it's mixed everything in, if it doesn't, I'll attempt to do it by hand:confused:.

  • Right,m it's been in for 40mins, it has made a big lump of dough, but there's one corner of the pan where it hasn't picked up all the flour, I used a wooden spoon to try and move the flour nearer the middle of the pan. All I can do now is pray and wait to see.
The whole idea was that this would save me money!

  • Hi I have just become the proud owner of a panasonic sd253:j and I have to say the bread is lovely. I just have a quick question the recipes that came with it use a lot of sugar (1tbsp) and I was just looking a the recipe book for the sd255/254 and they use only a 1tsp does anyone know if the recipes from the new model will work in my one?
