Oil is lighter than water, which is why it floats on top of water!

i had the wonderful panasonic for xmas but i trying to find a softer crust loaf i tried the sandwich loaf which says it has a softer crust but i personally didnt find any differance has anyone any suggestions please, its OH whos moaning that on the 2nd day the crust is dry and hard0

I only use half the amount of salt but still use the full amount of sugar, i was a bit worried that the yeast would not work properly if i cut the sugar down.
I don`t think that the amount of sugar is too bad though compared to a shop bought loaf.

Both times I have cut down on sugar, my panny has produced a brick. I also tried the milk loaf with good flour but not strong bread flour and it was brick like, cut down on the sugar on that too. Bit wasteful really, so I am going back to the original recipes as it seems to like them more!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

People have mentioned using oil instead of butter. Could you use olive oil ?and if so how much do you use when the recipe states 15g of butter, would that equate to 15ml of oil?
Dunno, like Jeff I don't measure, just use a couple of tablespoons full, a bit more or less doesn't seem to matter to end result as far as I can tell

My Panny is fab - got it about three weeks ago and haven't bought any bread since - I have so far only used bread mixes, all of which have worked well on the the fastbake setting - best so far is the Aldi 'Pantry' mix which has made a lovely white load - makes amazing toast! Will become less lazy soon, and stop using mixes as I have bought some wholemeal bread flour at Tesco for 60p a big bag - also made some pizza dough the other day which was ok- thanks to all on here for the fab ideas, recipes and recommendation of the panny bread machines - (mine is a SD253 which was on offer 'discontinued' at Tesco)0

Yeast feeds on the sugar to produce the carbon dioxide which makes the bread rise so less sugar means less rising.
Salt actually slows the process down though so cutting both might work.
Anyone have any luck canceling a program on one of these things?
I've just inherited an SD-206 from my parents but assume all models work the same way. The manual says hold down the Start/Stop button but when I turn it back on the macine kicks straight back in from where it started. Not even unplugging it interrupts the countdown.
I only wanted the dough cycle but set it on full bake by mistake.
And to answer my own question: Holding down the Start/Stop button does stop the cycle, seeing the blank display screen I was pressing it a second time thinking that turns the machine back on again when actually is was restarting the default program. Pressing the selection button instead let me change to dough mode.0 -
i cover it with a cotton tea towel untill cool then wrap well in parchment paper.
I just leave mine until cool/very slightly warm and then store in a huge thick freezer bag which i keep reusing and the crust is soft even the next day.
Try it and see if it makes any difference, i have a really cold kitchen and i`m not sure whether or not this makes a difference or not.

just had the crust off of a freshly baked granary loaf ,still warm with lots of jam ,.....gorgeous.
Had my panasonic for about 2 months now ,its the best £80 I ve spent in a long time.0
