evening all...hugs for those struggling. I caved last night and had a couple of glasses of wine (1/2 bottle) & a very early night...felt more measured than before but with the rest of the bottle open, out tomorrow night & Tues will have to get back at it next week! The trigger was a bad day & tired which today lead to feeling more tired & having the munchies so ate rubbish again...ahhhhh...the learning curve continues! One positive is that I only had 1/2 the bottle where normally would have had the lot with the S*** it mentality! Feels nice to be in control but will be slightly above units this week - only about a glass or two but thats above so not on target!
BB good youre feeling better! For those at "rock bottom" whether lurking or posting, PLEASE get help...you dont have to do this alone so dont but you do first have to acknowledge that there IS a problem and I think reading this thread just goes to show how widespread drinking to excess is! I do accept that not everyone who drinks too much is an alcohoic & am interested to know what others would define as the fine line? For me it would be that to be an alcoholic you feel you NEED the drink to function in everyday life & dont feel you can cope without it...What do others think? Enjoy the facepack & have a great w/e sea!! (sorry cant rem names & havent sussed how to read prev pages without loosing post!!)...and the shopping what can I say your eve is much less exciting than mine - I'm doing the weeks washing!! Now THATS exciting!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi Folks,
well, friday night and I am NOT going out on the lash! i am however making a controlled choice to have 2 (two and only two) glasses of my favourite wine tonight- a nice gewurtztraminer, very floral, elderflower and the type of wine that you can't just 'glug' if you see what I mean. It definately isn't morish. I don't drink it too much because it veers towards the expensive end of the spectrum and also DH doesn't like it too much ( says it reminds him of pear drops, the philistine!). So. I shal thoroughly enjoy those glasses when I have made my soup and tidied up a bit.
DH comes back for the weekend tonight and we are out tomorrow (to a korean place) and as it's his birthday we're then meeting up with friends for a little drinky chatty afterwards. I'll keep it reigned in though I hope,

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to say well done to those of you ,managing to abstain!!
Both me and OH drink every evening, wouldn't give you a thank you during the day even when on hols, (hols? What are they!!). I think with us it's become a habit, these days only drink wine, have had a bottle of good Scotch and Cognac (not to mention a bottle of Don Pom, gift from Xmas) in the cupboard for ages now, I mean months rather than days, never been tempted to touch it. Never go over the top and if for some reason can't drink isn't a problem, as I say habit. Funnily enough as I'm getting older find myself naturally cutting down. Having said all that really would like to cut down more. We both enjoy a drink and wouldn't like to get to the point when we can't have a couple of glasses of wine. OH is borderline diabetic so he probably has more of a problem than me.
Sorry to off-load on you guys but it's so much easier to share your concerns with someone else other than your nearest and dearest.0 -
Hello everybody.
Hope you are all ok on this friday night.
Day five for me today and very proud to have got through tonight without a drink as DH has sat next to me all night drinking whisky while I had lemonade.:A
I woke up this morning after some horrendous nightmares but this usually happens when I stop the alcohol so I will persevere.I really want to stop for good now as last year I stopped for five months and felt and looked really good.
Why oh why did I start drinking again. I have gained 3pounds on holiday last week and my skin has lost its glow again.
Anyway, at least there'll be no hangover for me tomorrow.
Keep up the good work and please keep posting .I love this thread.
Take care
Love Mollypolly xxxx:happylove :happylove

Morning all...had a few glasses last night and the more time goes on the more I realise that I dont enjoy it that much, esp how it makes me feel physically the morning after. Am off for a night away to stay with my lovely cousin and have a nice dinner with a couple of glasses of wine but never get drunk as such...I hate feeling out of control so stop after a few...Hope you all have a good day/eve and manage to fight the demons! Hang in there Molly polly...if youre havig nightmares if nowt else that confrms that the decision to stop is the right one as its a withdrawl symptom! Big hugs for you all!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

morning all.... well have managed to do 1 whole week without any booze !! seeing as I woke up this time last week feeling like absolute !!!! I actually feel really good today ! Have another 2 weeks of this anyway due to diet- so determined to keep it up.
Going to hairdressers at lunchtime then over to Mums for a family get
together which would usually mean start at about 3 then carry on later at sisters house. Have opted to be designated driver so can't have any !! prob be back on tonight as may be tempted later though.......
Must say in search of me- I know what you mean about not enjoying it anymore. I never seem to be able to stop at 1 or 2 glasses either anymore- it's like I feel I have to have more to make it worth my while. Crazy eh?
Molly Polly- well done on not caving although DH was drinking next to you- that's willpower !!
to everyone else- have a fab day- with a clear head !!!;)MTC's NO MORE PIES MEMBER NO 202 !!!

Morning all.
Well its morning for me anyway as I have just arisen from my night shift slumber. 4 hours interupted sleep, Lovely, anyway I digress. It has been 6 days for me now as I have been at work so today is the start of the test. I have 2 cans in the fridge and I will NOT be buying anymore today. I would normally buy a 12 pack and ,most probably, drink the lot. My aim is to cut down and will let you know how it goes.
Good luck to you all

Hi all
I would very much like to join this "support group" if you will have me. I have known for a long time that both my hubby and I have a very bad drink habit and I want to seriously cut down although I can't get him to see it as such a problem. We both quit smoking many years ago but the drinking increased.
At it's worst we would have 2 or 3 gin & tonics before we eat then start on the wine, consuming 3 bottles of wine between us every night.
Over the last couple of months I have managed to cut out one of those bottles each night but it is still a horrendous habit. I can only speak for myself but the feeling of lethargy is the worst thing when I get up in the morning as I don't suffer hangovers. Maybe if I did it would be easier to cut down. I have very little will power so find it hard to seriously cut down when hubby won't.
We have been through and are going through very hard times just like the rest of you and I feel that alcohol has become a crutch for us to use.
I keep suggesting that we could afford to go out for meals or go away for weekends if we cut down but I can't get him to address the problem with me. I am hoping that by "coming out" I will find the strength from you guys to go it alone and just drag him with me albeit kicking & screaming.
