  • Hello singlemum
Like you, I'm a single mum with two teenage kids, who make comments about my drinking....................quite rightly so !! I'm not much company for my kids if I'm nodding off in the chair 3-5 x per week. Although I think i hold it together when I drink, the kids certainly notice and make derisory comments.
There are lots of tips in these posts..................just take time reading through them................all very inspiring.
Some of us are going for the 30 days without alcohol in order for our bodies to recover....................some are simply cutting down. I'm on day 3 (again) after slipping after day 10 - hope you will join us. :)
  • Hi All
I found it very theraputic to tell you guys of my drink habits yesterday as it gave me the strength to cut down last night from my usual 3 G & T's followed by a bottle of wine. I cut the gin out completely and had just 2 glasses of wine. I know it's only one day but I can't remember the last time I did that so thanks to all of you who have posted your comments and encouragement to others throughout this thread.:T

I feel so much more alive this morning and wanting to do things. Although I did not sleep at all well last night. Hey, it's Sunday I can always take a siesta ;)

Elantan & Mollypolly - I took on board what you both said and agree that I have to confront my problem instead of trying to change OH as well. I suppose I have reached what I consider to be my rock bottom and want to change things. I can't tell him when he has reached his turning point.
So last night I ignored what the OH was drinking. I took myself off away from the TV and busied myself elsewhere. I was suprised to note that OH did drink a little less last night as well which is an added bonus.

    Will keep you posted

Well I stuck to my guns & never went out, even though my Brother tried to talk me into it earlier in the week! Got around to mowing the lawns for the first time this year. Took OH & I about an hour mowing & raking as the grass was so long! Before LBM we were paying next door neighbour's brother, who has his own gardening business,£6 a fortnight to mow them! How lazy is that:o ?! Bought a £30 mower from Asda last year & have mowed it 7 or 8 times,so that's saved us over £40 already:rolleyes::D ! I reckon i'll get a call in a bit from Brother & mates who will be half p!ssed trying to get me out. But OH is cooking us steak, chips, mushrooms & onion rings with a nice bottle of red wine so there's no way I'm missing out on that:D ! I will still end up having some wine & 2 or 3 cans of lager, but will not feel like !!!!!! in the morning as I would do if I was out with mates & will be £40 better off too!! Hope everyone else is ok. All the best!
Well enjoyed my steak & chips last night & we shared a bottle of red wine. Had a few cans but feel fine this morning-Is that good or bad:confused: ?!! No-one got in tough to go for a beer in the end which did surprise me,but made it easier not to gve into temptation too:D !Off into town in a minute to spend £25 M&S gift voucher that my Brother & his OH bought us for Xmas. Then this afternoon we are off to a new Chinese restaurant as my Mum is treating us as we bought her a Chinese takeaway last week. It is an all you can eat buffet so we'll make sure we get our money's worth:D ! I'm driving too so won't be drinking until I have a couple of cans later. Back later, all the best!!

  • Well done singlemum thats the hardest part over - admitting that it's down to you to sort it out which ever way you can. Don't you find it's so much easier to talk to strangers in the same boat as opposed to friends and family who can't get the message through to you because you always feel that they are disapproving and judgemental.
Non of that here - just good to talk and listen.
Be honest with yourself and things can only get better ;)

  • Thanks JWBF I really do feel so much better for writing it down, like a huge wieght has been lifted, am now looking forward to the challenge.......and hearing some possitive comments from the kids........... this could be wishful thinking:rotfl:

afternoon all....wel I'm back! Feeling belugh and dont know if it was food (rich duck) or alch - 1 glass of wine or 3 G&T's. Burnt myself lighting a fag so now have nice thumb tip burn! Decided that I'm back to square 1 - tomorrow the smoking & drinkig wil have to go again for a bit. Today I feel sluggish, didnt sleep well & woke up with terrible tummy at 6am...not good & it just aint worth it! Will still have some as dont want to say never cos for me thats setting you up to fail. Eltan you certainly didnt offend me! Thanks for sharing - I wanted to know what people thught! Good luck all with OH's!! I would go for the setting by example, get some nice alch free alternatives (ginger beer is yummy & tesco own do heap one!) and possibly start a cheap hobby to keep you busy - or post on here! Tomorrow will be day 1 for me again!

hello everyone and welcome Singlemum and Elantan and JWBF. You are in the right place.

Well, a mixed weekend for most of us I'd say. I'm feeling OK about myself - went out for a meal last night and had diet cokes until late in the evening and then I had a lovely glass of red with DH. This contrasts with previous consumption of an aperiftif, bottle of wine between teh two of us and then a digestive. So a good reduction. Tonght I've had a wine with dinenr and I'll have another whilst watching a movie. Dh goes tomorrow morning until next weekend so no more for me then. Feeling more in control but still very wary...
