Congratulations shoppy thats truly the best incentive to knock the booze on the head:j :j

Im tentatively saying that I would like to join in on the AFJ. Not sure I will be able to make the whole month as I have a good friends 50th to celebrate (I know, excuses excuses:rolleyes: ) Anyway point is I will be doing as much as I can in January after a very very alcoholic december

My motivators will include money saving of course (and boy do I need that) weight loss (and boy do I need that too:eek: ) and general health.

The thought really scares me though:o :o

  • Afternoon all!

Those recipes look lovely Shoppy...may try a few myself over crimbo!

I'm still determined to stay off the alcohol, although its been hard this week. Lots of crappy things going on - nothing major, just enough to get me down. Never mind, these things are sent to try us.

    Hope everyone is ok today

(Lurkio....I'm signing up for the AFJ!!)

  • Shopaholictiedthe knot-I think most people I know have unwittingly drank in the first few weeks of pregnancy as they just haven't known so don't beat yourself up at all. I had no idea until I was 8 weeks gone the first time and then like you didn't even think of drinking when I found out. As for Bf-dont worry i'm not the bf mafia-I only managed a month last time as DS didn't take to it at all and will have another go this time but won't beat myself up if it doesn't work out again. Hope you are feeling ok and thanks for the non-alcholic cocktail recipes. They look yummy. I had some fab na cocktails when I was in Minorca in June-I love the taste of the fruity cocktails anyway so made no difference without alcohol.

  • I would not DREAM of drinking while pregnant, I am horrified that I have been for the first few weeks but we had decided to quit trying till March (so I thought:rolleyes: ) and the news came as a big shock to me!! I have been printing off loads of lovely alcohol free cocktail recipes to try over xmas so I don't feel deprived!! I will post some, hang on!

I hope that works for you.

I know it wouldn't work for me - I don't feel deprived by not drinking. Not at all. The last thing I want in my body is booze, so I feel no deprivation.
A friend of mine who doesn't drink advised not to drink zero-alcohol beer or wine (as if!) or cocktails as he said your world has changed, don't cling onto the old ideas and tastes. Experience new ones.

An drinking alcoholics mentality could be "Hell, life will be tough now I cannot drink for 9 months" and then when baby is born, many hit the booze with a vengence and carry on where they left off. I know that sounds awful, but speak to many alcoholics and will find that the presence of children just altered their drinking patterns, it did not stop it. Eselt will back me up on this.
I thought having kids would curtail my drinking, but unfortunately it didn't. I had to be in serious trouble before I got help.

Being pregnant is a great period to really do something about alcoholism - you get out of the habits associated with picking up that first drink, but the key is you need to change if you don't want to be drinking around your baby. You can really try and clean up now, and that should be easier as you won't have any slips. Good luck
