been lurking, just dropping in to say hi. jo, sometimes i lay awake at night and go over times when it was so, i was so ruled by it. i look at so many issues in my life and wonder how much i caused myself thru drinking. i punish myself with it but it helps me to keep going, and remind myself how much i dont want it in my life.
feeling really low at the moment things are really really sh#t. but at least they are not doubly sh#t with a hangover.
xx:eek:

Soooooo good to read so many of you are doing so well :T :T :T :T
Had a carp week, was horrid birthday on Tuesday, felt extremely sorry for myself despite managing to go out the week before with mates and not drink. Was so fed up and low, then went out and hit the bottle with a vengence. That was Tues & Wed nites and feel like death today, despite not having anything last nite. I can't understand why I continue to do this to myself. I was going really, really well then as soon as i get a bit fed up I cave in, breaking strain of a kitkat me!
And now despite promising myself I won't drink anymore (I've also got a huge bag of accounts/VAT to do this weekend, as well as 2000 word essay) a mate has just called & asked me to meet her for a beer as her cat just died and she's heartbroken. I can't say no to meeting her, and I don't know if I can say no to having a beer. Suppose I can only try.
Good luck to everyone this weekend, I'm going to try and sign on, just to keep me on the straight and narrow:o
I have been going to AA for over 14 months now, and have not had a drink since my first meeting.
I know people say that they are not religious, and cannot abide by this surrender control to god/a higher power.
I can understand that - for my first few months I felt like that all the time.
However, the higher power can be anything of your understanding. Many people make it the other people in the group. So when they ask for strength from their higher powers, or advice, they are seeking out the wisdom of many.
Higher power just means 'something that isn't me' and can mean a tree, god, or a group of fellow alcoholics.
I have found that most people in AA are very much in control of their feelings, emotions, and ultimately their lives.
You come to understand what you as an individual are not in control of, be it the weather, the stock market, or your boss at work. When you give those things over to the higher power, then your life gets easier.
For example, why worry about the stock market, for there is nothing you can do to change it? Why get stressed if your colleague is a back-stabbing cow? You cannot change that person. You can change your reaction to these events however.
It means you accept things out of your control, and get control of the things you can. This makes life far easier.
People in AA still have crap days, but they don't drink on them. And they know that crap days usually pass, and things get better.
If you get support from this forum, you will probably get support from AA too. Don't dismiss it without understanding it.
It has helped millions of people.0 -
Okay fellow muskahounds, I need some help and advice about keeping the cravings at bay from around 3pm today...please
Hiya hun - not quite 3pm but here goes nothing ...
1) Buy yourself something yummy for dinner
2) Buy some lilt
3) Plan to do some (boring) house jobs you have been putting off but desperately need doing (esp with xmas coming up)
4) Post on here (keeps your hands busy and guilt trips you:o )
good luck, I am going to take my own advice and hope I can stay AF today, having a crap day, had some bad news from docs and feeling like giving in already!!0 -
Hi all- just to let you know Jo we all have our beady eyes on you- put your hands firmly behind your back and move away from the bottle....you don't like it, you don't need it, it doesn't like you, and ultimately all it wants to do is control/ruin your life..don't let it- best of luck.
Best of luck today everyone...hold your nerve, it will pass..............0
