Hi all-very proud of everyone today, with drinks promotions and xmas booze everywhere this is a hard time of the year to be struggling-but then again there never really is agood time, so why not today? You are such a nice bunch of people-what a pity we can't do what other threads are doing and meet up for a christmas bash-god can you imagine it!!!! Keep going everyone-please, it might be the best christmas present you've ever had.
thought I was OK but I went to M&S yesterday and this woman was trying to thrust a glass of port in my hand as apart of their seasonal promo...with some shortbread.........
used to love port but it was annoying in the circumstances...~I know it's ignorance and they're just doing their job but I could have done without the aggro...just wanted the shortbread....but crikey the booze stank!
constant vigilance...again....and a dose of humbug...
keep at it folks!
- hmm, I can just imagine a gathering.....in Starbucks maybe....take careFor what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Eselt you do so often hit a nerve (mostly in a good way!)...I often think, if all the regulars on here turned up for a "bash" somewhere.......would we all guess who is which......am I the only one who has a mental picture of people who post regularly on here? I am SO NOT going to go down the road of how I see everyone, & for god's sake pls don't tell me....:rotfl: :rotfl: but I do have a mental image of each of you.
P.S. you're all beautiful

What did you say to her Bis? I am a bit cruel and would've said no thanks, I'm an alcoholic. I know it's not her fault she's stood there trying to push booze but this sort of marketing really riles me
Thanks for the heads up thou bis, I shall be extra vigiliant when shopping now around this time of year!
Day 1 under my belt which wasn't too bad as I wasn't feeling too well anyway, mustn't let complacency hit, I know that when I'm feeling better either today or tomorrow the cravings will strike

Hi all- well done Jo!!!
Molly- yep, I gave up on Dec 14th 2007, but it wasn't really hard as I had been carted off to hospital for an emergency detox and couldn't have got hold of any drink even if I'd wanted too!!!
Agree with you Bis about the smell of the stuff, I can't stand the smell of it on other peoples breath-kind of sickly, sweet fumes that turn my stomach- reminds me of how my carpet used to smell when I'd spilt wine on it and it started to dry out- yuk- I must of smelt like that the whole time!
This year I shall be celebrating my 1 yr aniversary of sobriety with a lot of cake and a trip to the pantomime with my little ones- I remember the bad old days when I used to take a thermos flask of wine in with me because I couldn't wait until the interval for a drink- how bloody sad is that? This year will be different, I won't fall asleep before the end, I will leap up and queue for icecreams instead of dragging myself to the bar, and not growl because the noise of all the kids having a good time irritates my hangover. Begs the question really- why on earth didn't I get my act together years ago, the last decade has been completely wasted and they should have been some of the best years of my life- what a berk I've been.
Anyway, less of the regret and more positive thinking for me today- avoiding alcohol at this time of year takes courage, I think I'm up to the challenge, how about everyone else?0 -
eselt, you brought tears to my eyes as usual, thanks for your honest post
It certainly brings it all home..DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Just checking in for a bit of inspiration. Not doing particularly well
eselt. thanks for that post. I once went to a play and took some of the quarter bottles of wine in my handbag because I couldn't last to interval either. Unfortunately one of the bottle tops wasn't on properly and I ended up with a small swimming pool of red wine in my bag. Ruined a very expensive mobile phone:mad:
Back to the grindstone tomorrow I hope. Well done all :T29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -
thanks for your post eselt.
i hate those people handing things out - its so innapropriate - for a start isnt it a bit dangerous, most people have driven there ??!! my daughter saw one in marksies + wanted a chocolate so we had to stand + wait + this woman was trying to thrust me some bailey's type liquid into my hand - it was early as well!!! i would love to have the balls to say something really shocking! there was one man who had about 4, and he looked like he really shouldnt if you know what i mean.
off for coffee and cake now. yum xx:eek:

I can remember once running for the bus after an afterwork drink, I'd bought a 'top up' can to have when I got home
which was in my bag which came flying out, hit the pavement and exploded in front of a very packed bus stop
