  • Hi Fay, MP, everyone...
Sorry for disappearing over the weekend. It was a celebration day for me on Friday and then I continued with drinking wine Sat & Sun. Now that's behind me I'm planning a two week booze free period, with a possible exception for 1 day only next sunday, not sure yet.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

I've been contemplating this weekend about how long I have been chasing my dream of being sober, kept thinking about Spring Watch Girls post from early days on this thread:
Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life.

I hope you've still got the sun in your life SWG :)

I keep remembering ocassions when drink ruled my life and these memories keep coming back from longer and longer ago. For example, I know I started drinking regularly 15 years ago, but I wasn't truely out of denial until around 3 years ago.

I was talking with my mum yesterday about how I took her for a 5 day trip to Paris for her 70th birthday, she's just turned 77. I didn't say but I can remember the panic when sitting in the hotel room that I didn't have any alcohol to drink. My mum's not a big drinker, although we could've had one or two with a meal, but I would have looked rather out of place necking it down! I remember making an excuse to go to the corner shop and bought a 4 pack of beers. That is alcohol controlling my life cos I wouldn't have felt the panic or ventured out to find a shop late in the evening by myself, getting lost on the way then not having the faintest idea how much money to give the woman and her looking at me in disgust cos I couldn't speak any French!

Gotta go to work now, but it's quite an eye opener when you start to think of ocassions that were ruled by drink and you didn't realise it at the time.

    Speak to you all later.
    xx

Hi all- quiet weekend? Hope no news is good news?

MP- hop ethings settle down this week for you and you are not too stressed.

Fay- do you think you are working too hard? I remember when I did my PhD it just consumed me and I became really introspective and a bit obsessive about it- when I finally got my thesis in I was sick to death of it! Make sure you take a break from it every now and then, for your own sanity!

Hi everyone else, start of a new week- perhaps we ought to see how many alcohol free days we can have collectively- I reckon there would be well over 30. Good luck everyone.
