PS Do you grow veg or is it just a silly name - only asking cos I am starting to grow my own this year!

Just to wander off-topic for a sec......

We started this last year - you won't regret it. you'll be stunned at the difference in taste.

Things we learned from year 1
    • Only grow what you regularly eat
    • Do not under ANY circumstances grow any variety of squash
    • Do not ask your childs friend to water them while you're away - he'll only forget half of them and you'll come back to dried tomatoes
    :D:D:D

:DNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh :D
  • thanks for your replies - when you've seen what I have growing up it's a wonder that either a) I didn't turn to the drink earlier or b) it put me off booze for life!

At least I don't think I've 'turned' to drink - I am not unhappy, my financial situation is manageable, I have a fab job and friends and plenty of interests (including cabbages!) My problem is I LOVE LOVE LOVE chardonnay or the odd drop of Pinot!redface.gif

I am actually growing my own veg this year and so far my cabbage seedlings have done the best (although they did try and commit suicide out of my plastic greenhouse in the gales but I managed to save two of them!)

I have been sensible and only planted about 4 or 6 of each (good job I allowed for kamikazi cabbages) and I'm doing that every two/three weeks over the summer to keep me going.....Tom and Barbara eat your heart out!

Evening all! Well I've got a bottle of red for tonight - wont drink it all & wont start until later to minimise. For me its about strategies for reducing such as drinking later, less and enjoying it rather than wanting to drink too much. Also recognising that too much IS a depressive and while you think it helps stress it actually makes you depressed so try & think on that when you feel it will help cos it wont. What about alternatives - hot bath, bubble bath, good book, early night (if you have Oh could have an "early night"....!!!!) and good sleep to help the stress...alch doesent pus if you are drinking too much you feel a failure & wake up feeling rubbish!
YM how did it go today? Welcome cabbage grower! Do you have an alotment? I have one & am hoping it wont get blown away in the 80 mile hr winds due to hit tonight! Hugs all & keep posting - even if its tricky going - thats when we need the support most but also be aware that this IS a public forum so protect yourselves too! Just a thought!

I was just thinking "hmmm, should I go off-door", but having read that I don't think I will [STRIKE]yet[/STRIKE]. :D

  • I haven't got an allotment, luckily our new place has what was once a veg patch so I revitalised it.

I'm making progress I think - I've had some dinner tonight before I crack open the vino - I have a nasty habit of having a few glasses and then not being bothered to eat. I'm now so bloated I don't think I could drink a lot, it was cheesy pasta bake with not a lot of pasta!!

I'm thinking of YM too, hope your ok hun??

Continuing the off-topic talk....I got a huge garden that was a jungle for the last 14 years, slapped a wildlife preservation order on that thing as I had more butterflies and wildlife than the local forest! But I had it all cut down last year, weed killer'ered it and it's been covered in black plastic stuff since last August, hoping to get out there in the next month or two to turn it all over and get it ready for a veg garden :D:D

  • Go for it! all I've put in is a few spuds that were sprouting in my cupboard (and I planted them in a foul hale storm - hows that for dedication!) My first set of babies are ready to go in when the weather gets better and I have my second set propogating in the kitchen.

OK - I know I should be over on greenfingered board but...erm....I'm halfway through my chardonnay.......do I get to stay?
