Dear Jo 1972, please go and have your test. Don't sit on your fears and let them grow out of proportion. Know whats in front of you and deal with it instead of it festering away inside you like I have. When you get your results, it may be that things are not as bad as your imagine and can be dealt with easily rather than putting it off and maybe your health getting worse. I am sure you would give someone else the same advice so DO IT.

Thanks for the advice SWG & Lurky :) I know, I know, I find it easy to give that sort of advice but not so easy practising what I preach!

I did have a liver test 2 years ago which was all clear and the doc thinks there is no need to worry but as I promised faithfully (:o  ) to give it up (again) he said we'd start with a clean slate (again) and check my health so I have a bit of encouragement. He told me it's not mega urgent and said that I could go in the half term holidays (I work in a school), half term's now over, we've been back at school for over a week now and I didn't go...

How much do you call a lot?

I only drink at weekends and thats usually a glass or two at night of red wine.

I had a blood test last week as i have been continuously getting fluey illnesses since before christmas so the doctor reccomended a blood test.

Everything came back clear and very healthy bar the liver test. He said that my liver has some damage to it but this could be due to me not being well of late. He didnt question about how much i drink but this has really got me paranoid. I dont think I drink a lot and i dont touch it during the week.

I always say go - do it - then worry if there's something to worry about. At the moment you're worrying over possibly nothing (that and the embarrassment of facing your GP, but you'll have to do it sometime.....). Go on - deep breath... and do it!! :)

Hello all, can I join in please? I have been drinking too much for years now, I usually drink 5 nights out of seven and can easily sink a bottle/bottle and a half of wine a go! (although some nights I only have a glass or two!) I don't have any physical symptoms on the nights I don't drink and not really any mad cravings, my problem is that I love alcohol! I like the taste of it and the way it relaxes me, I think I have just got into the habit of using it to de-stress and try as I might I can't give it up!

A few months ago I got really drunk mid week and hubby had a go at me about it and I felt terrible, I decided to go to an AA meeting (partly just to 'show him') anyway, I hated every minute of it and decided from what I heard there that mine is just a 'habit' rather than an addiction.

I am glad to have found this thread and know I am not alone, I am trying for a baby at the moment so I know I should really quit as it can affect fertility, I am going to try and cut down, not really decided what tactic yet, will keep you all posted!

    :D

Hi shopaholic (ps i love those books!) - we're also about to start trying for a baby so maybe we can encourage each other??

I think its just breaking the cycle. I didnt drink for a while before Xmas and found that I didn't want to. but with Xmas you kindo of feel that you have to and I got back into old habits (v quickly!)

I haven't done too badly recently - I had a couple of glasses on thurs and fri) its my ritual whole watching american idol) as I had to promise myself something in order to get through all the cleaning and sorting that needed doing.

I'd also 'given myself permission' to drink weekends but I only had one glass on saturday and one yesterday with my sunday dinner. I stopped at one glass at didnt really feel much urge fro anymore - yey me!

Aiming to stay dry until thurs now (have a night out with a friend planned then) so wish me luck!

The reason I didn't have my blood test at the time of Dr giving me the forms was because I had a viral infection and he told me to go after as this would have an impact on my liver results. So I wouldn't worry too much on that front. What did your doc say he was gonna do?

Lurky, I don't get embarrassed in front of my doc, he knows just about everything about me!!

I'll try and get off work a bit early this week and go then :)

    Hi

Day 1 and am aiming instead of my usual 6-8 cans on my days off to have just 1 after my tea. I know it is still having a beer but if I can cut it right down then I will feel better within myself.
