If you are a regular drinker, by that I mean most days, your body is used to processing the alcohol. This doesn't mean you are dependent on it but when there is no alcohol in your system your body works differently (particularly the digestive system).
From group meetings that I've been to in the past I know that generally it's around 30 days till you can say you actually feel normal.
Does that make sense? Sorry trying to type this whilst getting numerous interuptionsDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Hi everyone, can I join in please? I drink red wine, and my problem is that I think "I'll have one glass with my dinner" then drink the whole bottle. I then feel absolutely terrible (physically and emotionally) but a day later I do it again! I did this on Monday night, and vowed that would be the last time...I obviously can't control myself, so better not to drink at all. I am also trying to lose weight and save money, so I have two more reasons not to drink. But most of all I'm scared - my mum was an alcoholic - kept down a job but was drunk every night, and I really don't want to go down that road. So, I think if I post on here - with all you loverly people's support - I can do it.
Today, I will not drink wine.0 -
Hi all,
Glad everyone seems to be doing well, I am still not drinking, or smoking and do feel 100% better, all those years of getting up feeling slightly grotty and thinking that it is normal to feel like that, it's not. I now get up with a clear head after having a good nights sleep.
Thanks for advice re new addiction of chocolate, am going to follow advice on here and do a bit more exercise. Tomorrow I am back at work for a 12 hour shift so plan to take no money or cards with me, also good for bank balance. Just take healthy food.:A
I think its getting out of the mindset of a rewarding myself each day, be it wine or choc's.
This thread is so good.

The good news is, still haven't touched any and my determination hasn't wavered one bit, just wished I felt a little better. How on earth did I let myself get to this? On a more positive note, I will not let this beat me, I keep telling myself that I can and I will. Good luck everyone else.
Hi spring watch girl, what great resolve you have to quit even though you feel like **** at the moment. That will pass soon enough, a case of having to get worse to get better, but it sounds as though you're there and now about to get to the feeling real good part, though you obviously feel so good about your dogged determination anyway! Good for you! Try flushing yourself through by drinking a lot of water each day. Continued success SWG, you really have to be admired!
Well done Roxie! If you keep off the drink then the chocolate will gradually peter out, meanwhile exercise as much as possible. Keep it going!
Hi jlynncsf, I really do hope you stick to your pledge and give it up. Keep reminding yourself just how rubbish it'll make you feel and how GREAT you'll feel if you can kick it! Drink water o any other non-alc drink that helps you and get going with that determination! We're here to help you through and will be thinking of you strengthening your resolve every time you may feel like wavering. Push on!
All the very best to you and to EVERYONE, keep it up ALL, you know you can!

Hi everyone, well haven't had any alcohol since Monday night, though have to say thought about what I was going to have my dinner tonight and thought "mmm, a wee glass of vino would be nice with that" NO! So have left my purse at home and am drinking lots of water. Must admit, have been sleeping better and it's nice to feel alert in the mornings.
I will not drink any wine today.0 -
hi - no alcohol last night yey! I'm going out tonight and will have 2 or 3 glasses of wine so just told myself to hold out for that! Makes it nicer if its a treat to look forward to rather than a habit. Its still a struggle thou - I really get the urge as soon as the kids go off to bed. I've found if I get a bath or whatever - just something to take up that temptation hour - then the craving passes. Will prob be spending more than wine on my water bill thou!

Oh yes. Not a specific time, but once I have made dinner and done what needs to be done around the house.... When it finally stops, I start thinking "Hmmmmmm, could just neck a beer"
Well done ym :T :T :T
I had two - which is less than usual, so I suppose that's something?
Hope everyone else is ok!Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh
