Does anyone actually have a good experience of the free line rental 12 month contract with mobileshop or the other providers who give refunds? Most of the messages here report negative experiences or experiences which haven't lasted the whole year...

  • I posted in my 6th month bill by royal mail to phones2udirect, however, the Royal mail, or phones2udirect has lost it.

Now, because I'm unable to supply the 6th month bill to phones2udirect, they are insisting that I am not able to make a claim, I have a copy of the original and the originals for the 5th and 7th month bills. However they are not accepting these as valid? does anyone have an opinion on the legality of there policy?

    TIA

    First time poster here!!

Tried that haggling tactics and got my T-Mobile Flext £35 contract down to £26 per month + a new Samsung U600!!

I basically asked what he could do for me and he said he couldnt do anything but give me a new phone. I said I liked the tarriff but couldnt quite afford it and thought it was a bit steep. He put me on hold and seen what he could do. He came back with £30 per month with the new phone but said it couldnt possibly be beat. I said I would ring back and compare deals. He told me to wait and put me on hold and came back with £27 per month. I umm'd and arrr'd for a bit and said could he do £25 per month and ill sign up. He checked again and came back with £26 per month but said he'd gone way further than he's meant too.

This wasnt quite and simple as this as it took 25 minutes of persuation :rotfl:

Needless to say, I accepted his offer and my new phone will come tomorrow and my Flext35 is now just £26/mth.

    Very happy with this!!

    Thanks Martin!

I assume that you sent it in recorded or special delivery, what do the tracking details say?

Are you sure it's the 6 month bill? I was under the impression that after the 120 days or whatever is stated in the T&Cs it is actually the 7th, 10th and 13th on a 12 month contract.

If this is the case then hopefully you are still in time to send the correct one - AT LEAST RECORDED DELIVERY!

I thought carefully about the possibility of this happening before I took out a 12 month cashback contact with Phonebox Direct. To solve this problem, I concluded the only safe way was to use Royal Mail Special Delivery at £4.30 with consequential loss insurance up to £1000, adding an extra £1.35. However, I consoled myself with the fact that I used Quidco to earn myself an extra £30, so in effect, this was free for me.

In your case however, the dreadful has already happened. If I were in your shoes I would contact Consumer Direct and start asking them about the Unfair Contract Terms act, or if they think you have grounds for a case with Moneyclaim. If they think you have good grounds, then hopefully a well worded letter to phones2udirect would jog them into paying up.

I would be interested to see how you get on if you pursue this and will be watching this thread. Good luck.

I took out my second mobileshop contract last June. Until around February 2007 they were fantastic, but I have had to prise the last few payments out of them with a tin-opener. If you threaten legal action they will cough up. Due to all the aggrevation with them I have now moved over to Phonebox direct, HAVING READ THEIR T&Cs VERY CAREFULLY INDEED.

Phonebox direct are much more strict than Mobileshop, who probably attracted a lot of money savers, therefore I think Mobileshop, being so easy, had too high a percentage of successful claims. Unfortunately they seem to have had a few technical difficulties <cough> lately which has caused problems in processing claims, and they keep trying to push 110% value of Argos vouchers on me for my last claim. Looks like I will have to write another letter.

What worries me is that I can't see anyone having confidence in Mobileshop again, so I am slightly concerned they may go bust when all the customers run away from them. On the other hand, they could probably do without customers like me, so maybe they will be OK after all. To be fair to Mobileshop, they have paid up - albeit late - after my persuasive letters, and I dare say they will pay up again for my last claim.

I will keep doing the one year cashback contracts. So far for me, 100% success (touch wood).

I have been on redemption deals for the last five years and have never sent them recorded before so didn't see any need to start now, it wasn't required by the T&C's

    Royal mail say it's lost!

The Six month bill arrived 124 days after connection

In my investigations since the lost mail. The Royal Mail stated that they would not pay out against this sort of claim. There response was "A claim of this nature would not be covered by our terms and conditions"
  • Hi,

Has anyone used the site http://niftylist.co.uk/mobiles/

It's worth considering in addition to OneCompare to find great deals as it covers more outside suppliers.

Just wondering Mcaddy, and anyone else who has used them - would you say that redemption deals work and are reputable, or should I steer clear and try finding a cheap deal as I would any other product?

Mcaddy: I do hope you manage to salvage something back!
