The machien doesn't whip - it just stirs as it cools. you need to make sure the bowl is really frozen - at least 24 hours inteh coldest part of your freezer. Also I would make the mix/ custard when you put the bowl in the freezer and let that really chil down overnight in the fridge too

  • Freeze bowl for 24 hours
Make sure that your ingredients are well chilled before adding to the machine
Don't overchurn....... it is better that it is a little soft and then pop in the freezer for an hour or so
You can buy the cup measures in poundland

This is the book that I have and it is all in English weights and measures

  • Thanks for all the fast replies.

I have a set of "cup" measuring cups. Is it as simple as just using the right size cup that the recipe states? I thought I read somewhere that fats and sugars get measured differently?

I have had the bowl in the freezer since last week, so I assume its cold enough :D

The lemon one looks lovely, but no lemons in house!! Do you think I could substitute it for raspberries. Would frozen raspberries be ok or should I defrost a bit?

    Thanks again :)

For a really quick and easy ice-cream, you can just use a pack of ready made custard - I usally whip up a small tub of cream and stir that in to the custard to lighten it , and add a bit of air. Pour the mix into the ice-cream maker and churn. Perfect.
  • Thanks Tony,

I don't normally have tinned custard in the house, but I will admit to loving the flavour of the ambroisia custard !

    Will definately try this one,
    Cheers

  • Hi Zip.

I didn't find the first link, but I had read through the second. The problem I found was that most of the recipes was for use without an ice cream maker (which is more MSE!) and I was unsure of how to adapt them to using a machine.

I have more confidence now after reading these posts!

    Thanks

When my kids were small I used a quick evaporated milk method.

Keep a small tim of evap in the fridge, when required whip it to a thick froth and add 6oz caster sugar and a tsp of vanilla essence and whisk again
Churn in the machine - mine used to take about 30 mins - and serve straight away.
