Thank you Zippychick, I shall read that thread now.
Kittycat204 I think I would need some convincing to eat bread ice cream? Mind you I use to say that about bread and butter pudding as my only experience had been from school, until I made my own. Actually bread and butter pudding with homemade ice-cream sounds yummy!0 -
Ok I've been reading up on the other thread thanks to Zippychick.
I've now bought tins of custard, tins of coconut milk, greek yoghurt, normal yoghurt and bio yoghurt with fruit at the bottom (that last one was reduced to clear and I thought it would flavour it well)
Also two tubs of Creme Fraiche, again a reduced to clear item so need to use it quite soon.
Do you think it would be ok to do something like fruit yoghurt, cocount milk and Creme Fraiche all mixed together? I've never made ice cream before. With most of my cooking, I just chuck in what I think tastes good and its fine, but this is a whole new scary thing to me.
I've looked online for hours but most seem to want me too add eggs and stuff like that. I just want something that tastes good and isn't too fattening0 -
you lucky thing, my fave ice cream book is the ben and jerrys one, it really does taste the same as theirs http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jerrys-Homemade-Cream-Dessert-Book/dp/0894803123/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344283227&sr=8-1 plus they dont use a cooked custard base so its dead simple'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Thanks SueSmith. I am just looking at that book now but the sample recipes all use eggs? I'm only looking on some American websites so it could be a slightly different book.
Who thought that ice cream could be so confusing0 -

i know it sounds odd, there are recipes online like this one http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2010/11/brown-bread-ice-cream-recipe/ (i didn't use any cinnamon)
you just make bread crumbs then spread them out on a tray with sugar and grill or put in the oven. the sugar melts and sticks to the bread crumbs. so you get little sugary crumbs. then you mix with normal vanilla. it really was fantastic. you wouldn't know bread was in the recipe.

quote from last page
"This recipe is fantastic. If you balk at the idea of ‘brown bread’ ice cream, I urge you to give it a try … I promise you’ll be converted. The bread in question is made into breadcrumbs and toasted with brown sugar giving the ice-cream a deep fudgy caramel taste which is so moorish."Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -
Oooh Kittycat it does sound nice now I read that bit about the sugar caramelizing and clinging to the bread. The pictures make it look wonderful!
I wouldnt' dare tell the kids it had bread in though lol!
I bought some cranberry and sunflower seed brown bread today and I think it would work very well.0 -

It's so nice, wish it was available commercially. Makes me want to makes some again. It was years and years ago I made it, and still remember it. If you get round to making it report back, PM me about it if you can. I like a happy ending.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -

Don't they look so professional! Every time I see pics of homemade ice cream it looks creamy and delicious, I can't wait to make my own. Although I will be giving the maple syrup and bacon a wide berth
My son has just asked me to make him a strawberry ice cream, he goes back in the army on Sunday so I have to work quick. He doesn't want me to use real strawberries because he hates them so i'm thinking on the lines of a packet of angel delight (he loves it!) and maybe milk and creme fraiche or cream.0
