  • we don't regularly use the big cinemas anymore for the sweet reason.
we've discovered our local village hall has cinema eve's /sat matinees for the kids...4 quid a ticket and u can take in what food you like...cuppa tea/coffee is 50p in the interval (yes..interval..another reason why i wont use the big cinema chains that much..i have the bladder of a nat)
i know they dont show the up to date films but waiting a month or 2 is no hardship for it to come to town, we're off to see the bee movie saturday afternoon :j:j

  • Me and my son visit the cinema (cineworld)at least once a week,i always take a carrier in with drinks etc,ive never yet been challenged(in 2 years)but if having to make a choice between visiting cinema and made to pay their rip off prices, the answer would be simple,STOP using cinema, check there prices out it is outrageous eg butterkist toffee popcorn 200g bags sainsburys £1.05 cineworld £3.20,how can they justify this extra £2.15,ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF RIP OFF BRITAIN:mad:

Why can't they search you? A bouncer can do it to check for drink or drugs?

Door supervisors do have the right because they are looking for weapons or drugs.

No they can't, a bouncer only searches you because you let them, you can say No but you just wont get into the club. So a cinema could ask to see inside your bag etc, you could say no but they then may not allow you in, but don't confuse this with staff anywhere having some right to search you, they simply don't!

My local cinema is a little chain of just four cinemas. I've twice argued with assistants about taking my own food in (no security) and twice managed to win. They don't provide food that I can ear (food intollerances) so I bring my own - oh I do enjoy shutting them up :)

  • this does bug me and im with the buy before u go crowd and shove it in ur pocket or handbag.

However in belfast the main arena make you chuck any sweets and drinks in a bag before u go in or they refuse u entry and they do check ur bags etc on the way in. Pees me off how much goes to waste :( and to think we pay £30+ on a ticket to go in for their gig and i KNOW they get paid £45k for the event we go to see so they dont need a huge amount on sales of confectionery. Greedy sods.

Where do people get this from?

Cinemas are exactly the same in other parts of the world.

as much as i dont agree with the high prices (theres only one thing thats fairly priced at our locals, and thats the fanta fizz slushie...yum) i dont agree that you should take in your own food - unless its for health reasons ie diabetic's or allergies.

just because the cinema is in the wrong to over charge you doesnt mean your in right to cheekily take in your own food.

Bouncers can BY LAW search you for weapons or drugs if you are planning to enter the club they are working at. It is a condition of entry. Do a search - the information is easy to find on the net. They are however required to abide by strict guidelines. You will find those guidelines in your search also. Or you could choose not to search and remain ignorant of the true facts.

  • At our local cinema they sell Candy King pick & mix. Fortunately our local Woolworths also sells the same pick and mix brand (including the bags) at 1/2 the price of the cinema. It's always a tough choice but you won't find me in the pick & mix queue at the cinema. I got stopped once by cinema staff who were doing a stop and tentative search in the ticket queue and I got my huge sack of swag out of my pocket and the minion passed me by. He must have thought I bought them there. The only thing I buy occasionally from the concessions stall is the Nachos if I'm feeling flush.
    cheers skinners

I accept that you have a right to your own opinion yeslek and you obviously have high personal standards. But this website is

    and not

So most of us are just trying to save a few quid. If you go to the cinema a lot then the cost of those sweets and drinks mounts up especially for those folk who have kids.

Sneaking in without paying for a ticket is wrong because you are obtaining goods or services without payment but taking in your own sweets is wholly defensible due to the huge mark up.

I guess the problem is that cable TVand Sky etc have hit the cinemas hard along with Video/DVD revorders and players. Sometimes when I go to the cinema (and as a film buff I go a lot) I am in with only a handful of others - often less than 10 people even for new major screenings. They have to recoup their losses somehow and appear to have decided to do that with sweet and drink prices.

If you take your own supplies then the Unlimited card is a great way to see lots of films AND save money but it would be really pointless to save on the ticket price but spend it instead on the sweets. Plus they aren't even nice - the Coke is made up from that syrupy stuff and doesn't even taste like real Coke!

I fully support the company in not wanting hot food eg Big Macs in their cinemas because of the mess but sweets? They're just trying it on!
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!
