Any prospect of a campaign against the cinema chains for the restrictions on taking in your own (i.e. not total rip-off prices) sweets?
See article at http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/19022008/5/cinema-s-sweet-eating-policy-sucks-0.html
How can a cinema decide for you what you will or will not consume? We have two kids and the price of a trip to the cinema is bad enough without paying an arm and a leg for refreshments.
I can see the point about not taking your own food into a cafe, or your own lager into a pub, as these activities compete with the primary purpose of the establishment. Isn't this different

They used to justify the high prices by saying that people could bring in their own stuff.
They've also put the price of the Unlimited Pass up so I'm going to cancel and stop going.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090 -
I thought the Unlimited card was still £11.99 per month. That's still less than the cost of 2 full price trips to the flicks. Great value.
But I do take small cartons of juice in my pocket and buy my Minstrels at the Blockbuster 100 metres away. They can't search you.Don't grow up. Its a trap!

Why can't they search you? A bouncer can do it to check for drink or drugs? Little bit different but still they have the right to refuse entry don't they seeing as its a private establishment.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

I have often gone to the cinema after some shopping - wonder if they think I would cook a chicken or make some cakes with the flour I bought.
Didn't know it was part of the T & C that only food bought in the place could be eaten there.
Wonder if you took in a portable DVD player and watched a DVD if that would be against their T & C?0 -
WE moved last year and have been to a few different cinemas in the area, I said to OH though we are going to Tesco on the way if you want sweets. We had our bag and went along to the cinema mentioned in the article at Rochester, HUGE sign saying you can only consume food bought on the premises.....well the staff didn't say anything, but you only have to get a stickler for the rules on shift.....
I took my brother and son to the cinema a few years back and stupidly let them ri[ at the pick n mix...it cost me nearly £15. Just in sweets. Seriously it is £20 for the three of us to get into the cinema these days, do they not make enough money already? We have already cut back on our weekly or fortnightly visits to once a month as a result of the entry price.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

I refuse to pay those prices for popcorn and drinks. I give them a drink before they go in, buy my own popcorn and put it in to smaller bags and pop them in my handbag and their coat pockets.Dec, Nokia E71 | Mar, Senseo CM |0

They may be able to search your bag but they have absolutely no right to search your pockets, that's why I always put my sweets in my coat pockets when I'm going to the cinema.Winnings

With their ripoff prices I boycot food (if you can call it that) or drink sold in a cinema. I've never been searched entering a cinema though but I suppose they have a right to do it if they so choose.0

Cinema staff do not have the right to search you. Door supervisors do have the right because they are looking for weapons or drugs.
Sweets are not illegal.Don't grow up. Its a trap!

when i was younger in school i remember my friend having his bag searched for food.
I think its a bit tight because there tends to be little competition between cinemas anyway (2 in my town of 200,000). They prices they charge are unbelievable for there actual cost less then 50p raw cost for £3.50 worth of popcorn.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it
