Or alternatively maybe you could go onto the cineworld website and link to the bit where it says they can and will search their customers.

I would probably get searched and banned with my sweet cigarettes

    http://www.aquarterof.co.uk/candy-sticks-p-385.html :D

I saw this yesterday in DM about a postman boycotting them, good on them

I understand they have to make a profit but not sells sweets and drinks at rip off prices, but its a captured market for them. In fairness its not just cinemas is it, there's other venues that charge extortionate prices for drinks/food and even merchandise

Vote with your wallet and not use them
  • I must be really naughty because I always take our own goodies into the cinema. I've never seen a sign saying I couldnt but then I have never looked. I'm not going to stop doing so until the prices of popcorn etc arent so riddiculous.

I thought the Unlimited card was still £11.99 per month. That's still less than the cost of 2 full price trips to the flicks. Great value.

My friend has a letter saying it's going up to £12.99. I'm not a huge film fan so can wait until it comes on TV or pay to watch on Sky box office.

  • HoneyDog do I come across as having a problem with a cinema, all I said was that I thought they had a right to search you and if you didn't want to be then they could refuse you entry its a guess but it makes sense seeing as its private property

I only noticed the sign last week. I've been going regularly for the last couple of years and never hid the water/sweets I took him. Even took in a Subway once as I didn't have time for dinner!

Misty I was asking whether you had any personal experience of what you were claiming but from what you've just said you don't have any.

Having the right to refuse you entry and having the right to search you are two completely different things.

Popcorn in cinemas isn't even fresh these days! They have the big glass cabinets with what looks like a 'popper' suspended in them but I have seen them tipping big bags of ready popped pop corn straight in!

If I feel the need to eat I will pop to the shop and buy a bag (of sweets) first!

Popcorn is generally popped that day but it would be impossible to only pop enough that was required at the time- the popcorn is popped and put into bags and used on that day.
I do tell people that they should go to asda etc first and get the stuff there.

All cinemas have signs saying that no food and drink is allowed unless purchased on the premises - same as if you go into a cafe etc, and it is not different from there because the majority of profit comes from the food and drink at the cinema.

There are notices saying that large bags etc are not allowed in because you may be smuggling in recording equipment and there is a right to stop people from entering with a large bag.

But if your smuggled contraband is in your jacket or the pockets of your cargo trousers then they will not find it because they are not allowed to search you.
