Cinema staff do not have the right to search you. Door supervisors do have the right because they are looking for weapons or drugs.

    Sweets are not illegal.

They can ask you to leave if you won't show them your bag can't they?just refusing you entry on suspicion and it doesn't have to be sweets they could claim you might have a cam-corder in your bag?

  • Popcorn in cinemas isn't even fresh these days! They have the big glass cabinets with what looks like a 'popper' suspended in them but I have seen them tipping big bags of ready popped pop corn straight in!

If I feel the need to eat I will pop to the shop and buy a bag (of sweets) first!
    .....

  • lol i went to the cinema on valetines along with all of my other single friends, we all went town first and bought a large a4 bag that we then went and stocked up with popcorn and coke cans from poundland! bag looked as if it had been filled! but no one moaned as it was teenage staff on duty so they pretty much giggled and siad good idea, just dont make a mess!

They have notices asking you to try and not to take in bags (because of health and safety- yeah right). but let's face it who is going to leave a handbag or whatever in a car when you are going to leave that car for at least 2 hours unattended?
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Really?

If I have a sign in my cinema saying: "All patrons must wear their underwear on the outside of their trousers" then you as the consumer have a choice - comply or take your business elsewhere!

oh god yeah this reminds me of peter kay - get the ufo's, they weigh less!

i only use the cinema as a very rare treat, when you take kids, and you cant get them pass the food parts its awful ..........
  • Perhaps we the public, are our own worst enemy. If we didn't buy the over priced merchandice at the cinema sweet counter, presumably the Cinema would be forced to reduce their pricing policy. Seems to me that as long as people are prepared to pay stupid prices the Cinemas will continue to charge what they feel they can get away with.

I always take my own goodies and not once have I met with any difficulty.

Mistyarthur - have you personally had a really bad experience at a cinema or are you just guessing at what you think they can do?

    Yeah really.

You're just being silly - try to stick to the original subject under discussion - if you can.

    vikingaero isn't being silly.

Honeydog is being silly by making random claims that "cinema staff don't have any right to search you" or similar. As Honeydog says, any establishment can define its terms of entry as it pleases and if those terms of entry require you to allow yourself to be searched, they can search you if they want to or refuse you entry if you refuse to comply.
